Quarter Horse. This time, we will see how he crossed on the Thoroughbred blood of Easy Jet’s dam Lena’s Bar. Our look at the pedigree of Easy Jet begins with Lena Valenti, his maternal granddam and dam of Lena’s Bar when crossed on Three Bars.
Lena Valenti, a Thoroughbred, had 41 races from 1948 to 1950. She had three wins, five seconds and five thirds earning $4,572. She started in two Quarter Horse races with one win and one third. She earned her ROM with an AA rating. She produced seven foals with six starters earning six ROM and two stakes winners and one stakes placed runner. This is a good record for a mare to have, but when we look at the two stakes winners, we see how Three Bars and Lena Valenti had a nick that stands out in this mare’s produce record. The other foal from this cross was Little Lena Bars and she reinforces the success of the nick between these two great horses, and we can make an interesting observation on the La Mesa All Distance Championship Series when we look at her race record.
Little Lena Bars had 31 official starts racing Quarter Horses. She won 16 of them with eight seconds and four thirds earning $18,454. Her stakes wins include the Captain Dick Handicap, C. L. Maddon’s Bright Eyes Handicap and the Shue Fly. Her record shows that she set a New Track Record at La Mesa Park for 440 yards in :21.960 and then she broke that record going 440 yards at La Mesa Park in :21.920. She ran in the 1964 All Distance Championship Series with seven stakes races going from 220 yards
to 440 yards. She competed in all seven races. She won the All Distance Championship Series #4 at 330 yards, the #5 at 300 yards, the #6 at 250 yards, and the #7 at 220 yards. She finished second in races #1 at 350 yards, #2 at 400 yards and #3 at 440 yards. She not only won four of them, but she also set New Track Records in all four wins. She covered 220 yards in :12.040, 250 yards in :13.330, 300 yards in :15.480, and 330 yards in :16.660.
Three Bars, the sire of Barred the sire
of Miss Night Bar the dam of Jet Deck,
was sired by Percentage, a son of Midway. Percentage was a stakes winner in the Pontchartrain Handicap and Cincinnati Trophy Stakes. He started in 87 races with 19 wins, 22 seconds and 18 thirds with earnings of $42,187. His dam was Gossip Avenue by Bulse. The dam of Three Bars was Myrtle Dee by Luke McLuke. She was a speed bred mare that set a 5 1/2 furlong record at Coney Island Racetrack. Myrtle Dee was out of Civil Maid by Patriot.
Lena Valenti was sired by Gray Dream, the winner of $19,180 from 28 starts, winning 10 races, finishing second in eight and third in three. Equineline indicates that he was stakes placed with a third in the Flash Stakes. But
other sources indicate that he won four stakes races, the Brown Hotel Handicap, Ann Arbor Handicap, Cleveland News Handicap and Hotel Cleveland Handicap.
The Thoroughbred sire record for Gray Dream shows that he sired the winners of over $2.8 million with 14 stakes horses, including Just-A-Dream, winner of the Raton Futurity and the Raton Derby; Great Dream, winner of the Cougar II Handicap; Radcliff, winner of several stakes including the Ak- Sar-Ben Breeders’ Special 1st Division; Fleet Boy, winner of several stakes including the Albuquerque Derby; and Ginos Dream, winner of the Raton Derby.
The Quarter Horse sire record for Gray Dream shows that he had 43 Quarter Horse starters. This includes 12 winners
