Flaming Jet, by Jet Deck, winning the 1973 Jet Deck Handicap at the New Mexico State Fair.
The short life of Jet Deck was rescued as a sire influence through
Easy Jet being the next link in this sire line. Easy Jet sired Easy Six, who sired Streakin Six, who sired Streakin La Jolla, the sire of Mr Jess Perry, the sire of Apollitical Jess and now Apollitical Jess is continuing the line through several of his sons.

Miss Night Bar, dam of Jet Deck
“Easy Jet was just one of those horses that comes
along every now and then... But I do attribute quite a bit of Easy Jet’s breeding ability to the fact that he is linebred to Percentage.”
- Walter Merrick
Barred by Three Bars to get Miss Night Bar. This gives Easy Jet and Jet Smooth a breeding pattern of 5X3X4 to Percentage. When I asked why Easy Jet was a good breeding horse, Merrick initially responded, “Easy Jet was just one of those horses that comes along every now and then.” Then he later added, “But I do attribute quite a bit of Easy Jet’s breeding ability to the fact that he is linebred to Percentage.”
Here is an interesting look at the Percentage race record that makes this statement interesting. Percentage was a sound racehorse that ran 87 races, and his minimum winning distance was 6 furlongs, his maximum winning distance was 6 furlongs, and his average winning distance was 6 furlongs. He won 19 of his starts. His two stakes wins were at 6 furlongs. This indicates that his racing ability was based on speed.
Here are a couple of stakes winners
by Jet Deck out of Thoroughbred
mares. Lanty’s Jet was the winner of the 1973 Golden State Futurity and the Kindergarten Futurity. Her dam was Lanty Girl by Immediate by Bimlech by Black Toney. Immediate’s dam was Duranza by Bull Lea by Bull Dog. The dam of Lanty Girl was Hijo Lanty by Hijo Manso and Hijo Lanty was out of Sky Lanty by Sir
Lanny. Flaming Jet, by Jet Deck, won
the 1973 Jet Deck Stakes and he was
also second in that year’s All American Futurity. He was out of Dusty Bound by Through Bound by Out Bound by Luke McLuke by Ultimus. Luke McLuke was the broodmare sire of Three Bars. The dam of Through Bound was Informal by Infinite by Ultimus. The dam of Dusty Bound was Her-Lily by Pondariel by Ariel by Eternal and the dam of Pondariel was Pond Lily by Ultimus, the double bred Domino stallion. This gives Dusty Bound a breeding pattern of 4x4x4 to Ultimus.
The short life of Jet Deck was rescued as a sire influence through Easy Jet being the next link in this sire line. Easy Jet sired Easy Six, who sired Streakin Six, who sired Streakin La Jolla, the sire of Mr Jess Perry, the sire of Apollitical Jess and now Apollitical Jess is continuing the line through several of his sons.
MR JET MOORE
When Easy Jet was setting his phenomenal record as a two year old in 1969, the next Jet Deck World Champion came into the world. He was Mr Jet Moore, bred and raced by Bob Moore. Mr Jet Moore was a good racehorse from the beginning as the winner of the Kansas
and four ROM, one stakes winner, and one stakes placed with earnings of $34,357. His stakes winner was Dream Along, winner of the 1954 Centennial Park’s Kansas QHA Derby. His stakes placed runner was Pink Pony, who was third in the 1955 Platte Valley Futurity and third in the 1956 Platte Valley Derby.
Gray Dream was sired by Gino, a son
of Tetratema by The Tetrarch. The dam of Gino was Teresina by Tracery by Rock Sand. The dam of Gray Dream was Dark Love by Traumer. Dark Love was the dam of 13 foals with 13 starters and 12 winners. She was the dam of two stakes winners in Gray Dream and Sun Lover, winner of the 1939 Kent Handicap.
When Merrick bred Lena Valenti to Three Bars, he was linebreeding to the roots of Three Bars. Lena Valenti was out of Perhobo by Percentage. Perhobo was bred by Jim Parrish, the breeder of Three Bars. Perhobo’s dam was Homebody, an unraced mare by General Thatcher. This gives Lena’s Bar a 2X3 breeding pattern to Percentage.
The mating of Jet Deck with Lena’s Bar appears to be a solid nick in its own right. We see that in the produce record of Lena’s Bar, she was the dam of five foals with five starters, five ROM, two stakes winners and two stakes placed runners. A very good record for a mare. But her two stakes winners were sired by Jet Deck and that tells us that she nicked very well with him making the cross the most successful nick for the mare.
Jet Deck was a son of Moon Deck. Miss Night Bar was the dam of Jet Deck. This mare was sired by Barred by Three Bars by Percentage. The dam of Miss Night Bar
was Belle Of Midnight by Midnight Jr, a foundation sire for Walter Merrick. During my conversation with Merrick about why he bred Lena’s Bar to Jet Deck, he responded, “Because of the Midnight Jr.” You will recall Merrick owned Midnight Jr and sold him to the Corralitos Ranch in New Mexico.
Belle Of Midnight was bred on the Corralitos Ranch and later sold to James Carter in California, where she was bred to
