Bob Morehouse Stakes
DICKEY BOB
by Danny Camp
For the third year in a row, Dickey Bob has won the Bob Morehouse Stakes at Canterbury Park. This year it carried a total purse worth $31,392.
There was never any doubt on Aug. 11 as Dickey Bob stepped away from the 2-post, which was the inside post. At the halfway point, he was a 1/2-length in front. Jockey Luis Valenzuela was handling the reins on the gelding for the first time as they crossed the wire a head in front. They completed the 300 yards in :15.430, posting a 100 speed index.
The gelding banked the first-place check worth $19,620 for owner/breeder Lunderborg LLC and trainer Jason Olmstead, which boosts his total lifetime earnings to $236,349. His race record now stands at 28-15(8)-3(1)-1, including victories in the Prairie Dash Stakes, North Star State Stakes and Minnesota Derby.
Lunderborg LLC bred Dickey Bob out of North Central QHRA Futurity winner Paint Or More.
She has produced 100% winners from four starters, including top earner and runner-up in this race, PYC Jess Bite Mydust, who won five stakes races, includ- ing the Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity. Dickey Bob is her second stakes winner.
Lunderborg LLC also owns PYC Jess Bite Mydust (Apollitical Jess-Paint Or More), who finished second under Nik Goodwin for trainer Jason Olmstead. The gelding won last year’s Cash Caravan Stakes and Canterbury Park Championship Challenge.
Haute Wagon (Wagons West-Chics Timeto Fling) crossed the line in third under Ismael Suarez Ricardo for owner Shelly Berkner and trainer Vic Hanson. The gelding was a runner-up in the Cam Casby Stakes earlier this year.
Fire N Guns (Freighttrain B-Garters N Guns), the only other horse in the race, was fourth. Polar Xpress was scratched.
Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity
EVA THE DIVA
by Michael Compton
Despite her 30-1 odds, Eva The Diva, the longest shot on the board in the $86,900 Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity at Canterbury Park on Aug. 11,
had every reason to feel entitled following her upset victory in the 350-yard dash.
Breaking from her inside draw, Eva The Diva grabbed the lead shortly after the start. With Julian Serrano aboard, Eva The Diva shifted ground but
held well through the lane. She led by as much as a 1/2-length and fought off all challengers to prevail by a neck over Whisperalittleprayer and A Fabulos Painting in a blanket finish. In winning the first stakes race of her career, Eva The Diva stopped the timer in :17.926, earning a 90 speed index for trainer Mark Barnes.
Owned and bred by Lowell, Becky, and Lynn Husman, Evan The Diva improved her record to 5-2(1)-0-1. The $36,498 winner’s share of the purse increased her lifetime bankroll to $43,426.
Bred in South Dakota, Eva The Diva is out of lightly raced Homeade Miracle. She has produced 100% winners from four starters, including stakes winner Zoes Sassy Miracle. Eva The Diva is her second stakes winner and top earner.
Runner-up Whisperalittleprayer (Ivory James- Atsi Hero) just missed under Katlin Bedford. The bay filly is owned by Brenda Reiswig and is trained by Clinton Crawford. A Fabulos Painting (One Famous Eagle-Painted Summer) was just a head behind in third. Nik Goodwin piloted the bay gelding for own- ers L Team, Tom Maher, and Paul Luedmann.
Hes A Terror (Hes Relentless-Vee Six), Jess
One Lane (One Sweet Jess-Girl In The Lane TB), McClusky Mugger (Valiant Hero-My Dynasty Chick), Roomer Haz It (Mr Jess Perry-Seis The Royal Cash), Shes Tough Enough P (Apollitical Jess-Peppermint Seis), and Sweet Carol Line (Moonin The Eagle-Paint Or More) followed. Class E Cartel was scratched.
Mystic Lake Northlands Juvenile
ONE KOOL DREAMER
by John Moorehouse
One Kool Dreamer broke her maiden and earned black type in one fell swoop, winning the $20,000 Mystic Lake Northlands Juvenile at
Canterbury Park on Aug. 11.
Breaking on top from the 7-post, the filly led at
every call. She opened up a 1/2-length advantage by the time she hit the stretch, and she maintained that separation as she reached the finish line.
Jason Olmstead trains One Kool Dreamer, who finished the race in :17.900 and posted a 91 speed index. Luis Valenzuela did the riding.
Making her sixth career start, the two-year-old filly went gate to wire in the 350-yard race, held for horses that did not make the field for the Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity. One Kool Dreamer was no stranger to stakes company; she finished fourth in July’s MQHRA Stallion Auction Futurity.
Brenda Reiswig homebred One Kool Dreamer, who brought home an $8,400 payday that improved her total earnings to $17,998. Reiswig also owns One Kool Dreamer’s dam, winner One Kool Wagon. She has produced 100% winners from three starters. One Kool Dreamer is her first stakes winner.
Reiswig also owns runner-up Midnight Eagle (One Famous Eagle-Midnight Sunlight), who
is trained by Clinton Crawford and had Daniel Torres aboard. One Dreamin Eagle (One Famous Eagle-This Dreams Flying) placed third for Thomas Scheckel. Another Olmstead trainee, the filly had Nik Goodwin aboard.
The remaining order of finish had Pritty Too (Chickie Cherry Cola-SFR Fire N Brimstone) in fourth, followed by A Jewel Leaving You (Coronas Leaving You-Ajewelindisguise), A Dandy Bux (Inseperable-Teller Phoebe), Miss Racy Reagan (Tres Seis-Miss Racy Eyes) and Streakins Soldier (BV Travelin Soldier-Streakin Virtue). Lethal Valeta was scratched.
