Develop A Plan Stakes-G3
FEATURING FAST JESS
by John Moorehouse
After a layoff of almost a full calendar year, Featuring Fast Jess returned to competition in fine fashion winning the 350-yard $35,000 Develop A Plan Stakes-G3 held at Delta Downs on July 4.
Owned by Rancho FL, LLC, the five-year-old gelding notched the third stakes victory of his career, all coming at this Louisiana track. He also won the 2018 versions of the Vinton Stakes and Delta Downs Louisiana Bred Derby.
He broke from the 2-post in this event, running third at the first call and getting stronger with every stride. A close second entering the stretch, he emerged by a nose at the front of a blanket finish.
Rob Meche trains Featuring Fast Jess, who finished the race in :17.398 for a 95 speed index. Noe Castaneda did the riding. The victory brought home a $21,000 payday, increasing his lifetime earnings to $289,192.
Jumonville Farms and Burnett Ranch
bred Featuring Fast Jess out of Texas Distaff Challenge-G3 finalist Featuringmissjess. She has produced three money earners from four starters.
Last year’s winner of this race, Gunsmoke B (American Runaway-Dashing Pana) beat DLJ Imma B Famous to the wire by a head to secure runner-up honors. Rogelio Marquez, Jr., owns Gunsmoke B, who is trained by Jesus Marquez and had Antonio Alberto aboard. Myron McKinnon owns DLJ Imma B Famous (Coronas Leaving You-Yugo Buds), a former graded stakes winner tabbed as the pre-race favorite. Eduardo Morales trains the gelding and Ubaldo Luna was aboard.
RF Fast Dash N Blue (Jess Louisiana Blue-Fast Dash N Deb), Soft On Coronas (Coronas Leaving You-Soft Summer Jess), One Sweet Merlot (One Sweet Jess-Onemoreglassofwine), Fantasticazoom Jr (Fantastic Corona Jr-Zoomshakalaka) and Psychopath (Favorite Cartel-Streaking Power) com- pleted the order of finish.
Old South Derby
MR TERESO
by Tracy Gantz
Whether in his native Texas or in nearby Louisiana, Mr Tereso knows how to find the finish line first. He captured his seventh victory in 10 lifetime starts in the $98,150 Old South Derby at Delta Downs on July 3.
When the gate opened, Mr Tereso threw his head up and broke inward from the 2-post. Jockey Luis Vivanco straightened out the gelding immediately, and they vied for the lead. Half of the field came
to the wire together, but Mr Tereso edged them all, winning by a head in :17.462 for 350 yards.
Fernando Lopez trains Mr Tereso for Jose Oviedo, who owns and bred the gelding. Mr Tereso also ran second in the 2019 Evangeline Downs Futurity-G3.
Oviedo bred Mr Tereso out of his winning homebred My Cold Corona, who has produced two starters, both winners. Oveido raced the second dam, winner My Favorite Snow, toward the end of her racing career.
Hit Or Miss Kiss (Kiss My Hocks-One Famous Ermana) finished second under jockey Agustin Silva for owner Jose Guzman and trainer Alonso Neri. The filly broke her maiden in March at Remington Park.
Juan Garcia Jr. piloted Love The Way You Fly (Furyofthewind-Lovethewayyoulie) to third for owner Todd Matte and trainer Trey Ellis. Last year, Love The Way You Fly won the LQHBA Louisiana Million Invitational Stakes.
Freighttrain Reba (Freighttrain B-Arriba Reba) was fourth and was followed by Sensational Senator (Louisiana Senator-I Opening Sensation), Recognize (Coronas Leaving You-Fovee), Lovethewayyourun (One Dashing Eagle-Duplicate Check), A Game
Jess (Game Patriot-Jess Caroline), Ms Diamond Prize (Fast Prize Jordan-Ms Diamond Oak) and Fast Dash Hondo Cat (AJs Fast Dash-Who Dat Hondo Cat TB).
Vinton Stakes
LIFEINTHEFASTLANES
by Tracy Gantz
Lifeinthefastlanes demonstrated the speed to go with her name when she captured the $50,000 Vinton Stakes at Delta Downs on July 3.
The second choice in the 10-horse field, Lifeinthefastlanes broke fourth from the 2-post on the sloppy, sealed track. Ridden by David Alvarez, she quickly sprinted away from Strut For Petes Sake to her right. Swamp Eagle on the rail vied with Lifeinthefastlanes, who kept to her task to beat him by 3/4-length in :19.301 for 400 yards.
Kenneth Roberts Sr. trains Lifeinthefastlanes for owners Jason Richards and Michael Leblanc. The owners bought the filly for $41,000 at the 2018 LQHBA Yearling Sale. Runnin Broke Ranch consigned her to the sale for breeders Wade and Kay Loup. Last year, Lifeinthefastlanes finished third in the Lassie Futurity-G2.
The Loups bred Lifeinthefastlanes out of home- bred Pantherinthefastlane, a two-time stakes winner and half-sister to graded winner Photo Smart. She has produced three winners from four starters.
Ubaldo Luna rode Swamp Eagle (Heza Fast Dash-Gee Whit) to second for owner Fausto Mendoza and trainer Fructuoso Huitron. Swamp Eagle finished third in the 2019 LQHBA Louisiana Million Invitational Stakes.
Roberts also trains third-place TDZ Jet Black Down (Jet Black Patriot-Miss Barton County), a homebred for Tony Doughtie. Noe Castaneda rode the gelding, who won last year’s Laddie Futurity-G2.
Runaway Second Down (Sir Runaway Dash- Second Down Perry), One Fast Perry (Fast Prize Jordan-De Bell Perry), Jess U R Blue (Jess Louisiana Blue-U R Blue), Jess A Fast Rogue (Heza Fast Dash- Miss Jess Rogue), A Quick Jewel (Jet Black Patriot- Lummis), No Freight (Freighttrain B-Nobo) and Strut For Petes Sake (Struttin To Beduino-Kelforpete) completed the order of finish.
