Virgil Bond Stakes
LOUISIANA DRESSBLUES
by John Moorehouse
Louisiana Dressblues successfully became a repeat defender in the Virgil Bond Stakes. After winning last year’s edition, the five-year-old gelding returned
and did the same in the $33,000 event held at Delta Downs on July 18.
The race boiled down to a two-horse battle between Louisiana Dressblues and post-time favorite Desire Astoli, who quickly separated themselves from the rest of the field. Desire Astoli led early and remained in front around the far turn, but Louisiana Dressblues came charging underneath rider Juan Garcia, making up a 2-length gap to surpass his foe and hit the wire first with a 1/2-length margin.
Owned by Wilson One Consulting, LLC, Louisiana Dressblues now holds six wins in 16 starts—with Virgil Bond victories representing one- third of his triumph total. He also brought home a $21,000 payday for this effort, improving his total earnings to $138,960. The gelding has finished in the money in two other stakes: the 2018 runnings of the Races And Aces Stakes at Evangeline Downs, and the Live Oak Stakes at Delta.
Trey Ellis trains Louisiana Dressblues, who fin- ished the race in :45.898 for a 96 speed index. The gelding was bred by Easy Acres Performance Horses out of Charlomaine, a Thoroughbred mare. She has produced 100% money earners from eight starters. Louisiana Dressblues is her first stakes winner.
Gary Aber owns Desire Astoli (Desirio-Stoli Victory), a Kennth Roberts, Sr., trainee who had Donald Watson in the irons.
Roberts also trains Jessi Jam (Jet Black Patriot- Royal Rio Miss), who hit the board a distant third for Mo Racing. Randy Edison drew the riding assignment.
Jess Louisiana Boo (Jess Louisiana Blue-La Boo Con), Im Mighty Fast (Mighty Corona-Sheza Fast Doll) and Heza Dash Faster (Heza Fast Dash-My Elle Prada TB) completed the field.

Dean Frey bred Danjer and trains him for himself and co-owners Downtime Enterprises LLC and Billy G. Smith. Danjer also won the 2018 All American Juvenile and 2019 First Down Dash Stakes. The 4-year-old gelding’s stakes-placings include the 2019 Ruidoso Derby-G1. Shez Jess Toxic, the dam of Danjer, is also a multiple stakes winner. She has produced two winners from four starters.

Gopher State Futurity
FLY MISS CORONA JESS
by Tracy Gantz
Nearly every starter in the $49,579 Gopher State Futurity on July 7 began their racing career at Remington Park. Fly Miss Corona Jess was one, and
she parlayed that into a victory.
Jorge Torres piloted Fly Miss Corona Jess in the
Gopher State Futurity finals. The fastest qualifier from the June 17 trials and the 4-1 second choice, Fly Miss Corona Jess broke well and powered down the stretch for the entire 350 yards. She held off Jess Rocket Man, the 2-1 favorite, by a head in :17.493.
Clint Crawford trains Fly Miss Corona Jess for owner Cavenaugh Quarter Horses LLC. The filly had a troubled trip in her debut at Remington to run unplaced and then finished second in a maiden race there. She won her trial to the Gopher State Futurity by 3/4-length.
Valley Farm bred Fly Miss Corona Jess out of Fly Miss Corona, who was a runner-up in the New Mexico Derby Challenge-G3. The mare has pro- duced four winners from six starters.
Lunderborg LLC’s homebred Jess Rocket Man (Apollitical Jess-Paint Or More) finished second. Berkley Packer rode the gelding for trainer Jason Olmstead. Jess Rocket Man had won one of three prior starts and was the second-fastest qualifier.
