SHEZ BODACIOUS
by Michael Cusortelli
An $8,500 yearling purchase at last year’s Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale, second- fastest qualifier Shez Bodacious paid dividends with her 1-length victory in the 300-yard $108,800 Heartland Futurity at Indiana Grand on July 22.
Shez Bodacious stopped the timer in :15.726 while racing against a reported 8-mph head wind. Natasha Fritz rode the filly for owners Brad and Patty Marshall and trainer Tim Eggleston.
“She didn’t break as well as she did in her trial, but she sure made up for it in the race,” said Fritz, a second-generation jockey who followed her mother, Julie Veltman, into Quarter Horse racing. “She kept on digging in. She has so much heart. You can feel it in her.”
Raced exclusively at Indiana Grand, she has won two of three starts and has earned $69,140. In her July 4 trial, Shez Bodacious won her heat by 1-length for the second-fastest qualifying position.
