CR APPOLLITICAL JOE

CR Appollitical Joe made it back-to-back victo- ries for his connections with a facile score in the $75,555 Hawkeye Futurity at Prairie Meadows
on July 24.
A homebred for Curt and Dick Tobin, CR
Appollitical Joe raced in fourth position early. He rallied strongly in the lane, running down race favor- ite PL Pearl Harbor and surging clear to a 1/2-length win under jockey Berkley Packer for trainer Jason Olmstead. The second-fastest qualifier after winning his trial heat on July 3 by a nose, CR Appollitical Joe covered the 330-yard distance in the main event in :16.961, earning a 91 speed index.
The $38,535 winner’s share of the Hawkeye Futurity purse raised the bay gelding’s bankroll to $46,091 and he now has a race record of 4-2(1)-0-1.
The Tobin’s bred CR Appollitical Joe out of winner LW Evening Lajolla. She has produced 100% winners from seven starters, including top earner CR Game Changer, who won the Jim Bader Futurity.
Runner-up PL Pearl Harbor (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Four Your First Lady) broke fastest and showed the way early, but bore out in the lane under Jorge Torres. He finished second for owner Thomas D. Lepic and trainer Stacy Charette-Hill.
Jockey Eugenio Navarrete Jr. piloted
DF Fabulous Flare (One Fabulous Eagle- Nothinlikelovin) to third for owner Five Guys Racing and trainer Edward Hardy.
Class N Attitude (Volcom-Hiclass Attitude), Good Cartel Candy (Jess Good Candy-Tellher to Fly), A Third Rate Romance (High Rate of Return-Foxy Millie), Appollitical Hawkeye (Apollitical Jess-Cartels Belle), and LK Sassy Classy (Winners Version-Classy in Red) completed the order of finish. A Third Rate Romance, who came in after the start and impeded rivals, was disqualified and placed eigth. Rylees Rocket and TS Jess Wave Goodbye were scratched.

CR HEZ THE MAN

CR Hez The Man proved to be the man in the $58,525 Cyclone Derby at Prairie Meadows on July 18, registering the first stakes win of his career
in the 350-yard event.
Ridden by Berkley Packer, CR Hez The Man
raced in 4th position early. He rallied strongly out- side of runners in the lane to score by 1-length over race favorite RM Okeys Wagon at the finish. Bred/ owned by Richard & Curt Tobin, CR Hez The Man stopped the timer in :17.660 for a 94 speed index.
While the Cyclone Derby was his first stakes tally, CR Hez The Man finished second in last year’s Mystic Lake Northlands Juvenile and improved his record to two wins from 10 starts. The $33,915 winner’s share of this purse increased his bankroll to $56,758.
Bred in Iowa, CR Hez The Man is out of graded stakes-placed LW Evening Lajolla, who finished sec- ond in the Future of Iowa Stakes-RG3 in 2008. She has produced 100% winners from seven starters.
Runner-up RM Okeys Wagon (Lil Kool Wagon- Okey Dokey Dixie) grabbed the lead in the lane but was unable to fend off the winner in the late stages. Ridden by Eugenio Navarrete Jr., RM Okeys Wagon is owned by Lisa Baumeister and is trained by Wayne Garner.
Our War Hero (Valiant Hero-Tell Her Shes Queen) and jockey Agustin Silva showed the way early and held third for owner/breeder Summer Hill Farm LLC and trainer Clinton Crawford.
Gracies Tuition (Lil Kool Wagon-Majestic Jet Black), Haul Your Wood (Lil Kool Wagon-Fly Around Chueca), Edith Anne (Mighty B Valiant- Rodeo Rona), MF Docs Corona (First Prize Doc-Fly In Your Corona), TS Dash To The End (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Dash Of Perry), TRS Amazing Kailyn (Just Amazing Jess-TRS Dashin Diamond) and Queens Dashing Eagle (One Dashing Eagle-Queen Of Anywhere) followed. Regal Dynasty and SFS Chalk It Up were scratched.
Cy-Hawk Stakes
IRIS ROYAL JESS

Iris Royal Jess scored the second stakes victory of his career on July 18, proving much the best in the $25,000 Cy-Hawk Stakes at Prairie Meadows.
With jockey Cristian Esqueda aboard, Iris Royal Jess broke smartly and assumed the early lead in the 350-yard test. He remained in command throughout, scoring a 1 1/4-length wire-to-wire victory over race favorite The Polar Vortex, getting the distance in :17.649. The final time earned a 94 speed index for owner B/B Wessels LLC and trainer Alex Wessels.
Winner of the Polk County Derby in 2018 and placed in the Jim Bader Futurity in 2017 and the Terrace Hill Stakes a year ago, Iris Royal Jess has never missed the board, improving his stellar record to 11-7(2)-3-1. The $11,795 winner’s share of the purse increased his lifetime bankroll to $158,033.
Warren Garrels bred Iris Royal Jess out of lightly raced Pure Royal Dash. She has produced 100% money earners from 10 starters. Iris Royal Jess is her first stakes winner.
Runner-up The Polar Vortex (Carters Cartel- Signs Zoomer) was denied a second straight win despite offering game chase through the lane. Ridden by Berkley Packer, The Polar Vortex, who is multiple stakes-placed, is campaigned by owner Thomas D. Lepic and is conditioned by Jason Olmstead.
Streakin Jesszee (Mr Jess Perry-Golly Zee), a stablemate of the Cy-Hawk winner, finished third under jockey Agustin Silva. Wessels saddled the 4-year-old filly for owner Jeff State.
Apollitical Queen (Apollitical Jess-Heros Queen), Fast N Famous Jeans (One Famous Eagle- Fast Jeans), and Storming Red Chickie (Red Storm Cat-Burn Down Chickie) completed the order of fin- ish. CR Hez the Man, Kays Dynasty, Kays Wagon, Lil Tuff Wagon, Lil Upity, Real Wagon, Regal Dynasty and Rowdy Anywhere were scratched.
