Picov Maturity
HAD TO BE IVORY

Coming off two Canadian-bred Horse of the Year titles, Had To Be Ivory collected his second consecutive Picov Maturity with a purse of
$23,425 on July 1, Canada Day, at Ajax Downs.
Bet down to 3-5 favoritism and with regular rider
Tony Phillips aboard, Had To Be Ivory battled with Shes Sizzling for most of the 300 yards. The 5-year- old gelding nevertheless received every call, scoring by a neck in :15.344.
Had To Be Ivory has won 13 of 16 starts, with two seconds. In addition to his two Picov Maturitys, he has trophies for the 2017 Ajax Juvenile Challenge, 2017 Alex Picov Memorial Futurity, 2018 Ajax Downs Bonus Derby Challenge, and 2018 Picov Derby.
Bryn Robertson trains Had To Be Ivory for owners/breeders Carol and Jaime Robertson. The Robertsons bred Had To Be Ivory in Ontario, Canada, from Had To Be Fandango. Racing for the Robertsons, Had To Be Fandango won the 2011 Maple Leaf Derby. She has produced two starters, both winners.
Erik Lehtinen trained Shes Sizzling (Sizzlin Cartel-Shenandoah Special) to a deadheat for 2nd, ridden by Ramiro Castillo, and bred and owns
her with Joyce Lehtinen. Shes Sizzling won the
2019 Ontario Bred Derby and 2018 Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity. Helen Vanek piloted Maryland Magic (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Purley Un Social) to 2nd for owner Milena Kwiecien trainer Jason Pascoe. Maryland Magic has placed in two other stakes.
Completing the field were Spy For The Senate (Louisiana Senator-Corona Spy), Countrys Comin Bac (Country Chicks Man-Bac To Center), Not Whistlin Dixie (Strong Hope-Ramblin Strawfly), Chicksdigmymoneybags (Chicks Regard-Aaneta), Carneros (Prospect To The Top-Cakebread And Thou), and Rey Of The Night (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Unveil).

SPY FOR THE SENATE

It’s been nearly a year since Spy For The Senate vis- ited the winner’s circle, but he got his picture taken after winning the $15,877 QROOI Distance Series
Stakes at Ajax Downs on July 8.
The bay colt broke from the 6-post in the lead
under jockey Ed Walton, and they were a neck in front midway down the stretch. They continued to lengthen their lead, crossing the wire a 1/2-length in front. Trained by Jason Pascoe, Spy For The Senate completed the 350 yards in :17.732, good for a 95 speed index.
The colt scored the $7,057 first place check
for owner Milena Kwiecien, which brings his total bankroll to $90,501 and his race record now stands at 24-6(2)-6(3)-1(0). Spy For The Senate also won the Alex Picov Memorial Futurity in 2018 and was a runner-up in last year’s Alex Picov Memorial Derby at Ajax Downs and in the Gopher State Derby at Canterbury Park.
Mary Hainline bred Spy For The Senate out of winner Corona Spy. She has produced 100% winners from two starters. Spy For The Senate is her first stakes winner. The second dam is winner I Spy A Fly, who was third in the Refrigerator Handicap.
Not Whistlin Dixie (Strong Hope-Ramblin Strawfly) ran a steady and even race to bank second place money under jockey Tony Phillips for owner/ trainer Amanda McCormack. The mare has won five races from 10 starts.
Maryland Magic (PYC Paint Your Wagon- Purley Un Social) was third under Helen Vanek
for Milena Kwiecien and trainer Jason Pascoe. The horse was 2nd in the Picov Maturity one week prior to this race.
Elenorr (Mr Jess Tex-Squincheyes) fin-
ished in fourth place and was followed by Chicksdigmymoneybags (Chicks Regard-Aaneta) and Jess A Deal (Dealagame-Jess Marcy).

Bpmysoutherndynasty registered the first stakes win of his career with a convincing score in the $24,850 Cherokee Nation Stakes at Fair Meadows on July 25. Ridden by Rolando Raudales,
Bpmysoutherndynasty raced in third position in
the early stages following a bump after the start. He grabbed the lead in the lane and drove clear late to post a 1 1/2-length victory as the odds-on favorite. Trained by Dee Keener, the two-year-old sorrel geld- ing covered the 350 yards in :17.889, earning an 86 speed index.
Owned by Elizabeth Logan, Bpmysoutherndynasty now owns two wins from seven starts and the $14,946 winner’s share of the purse increased his career bankroll to $67,366. A winner for the second time since his third career start on April 23, Bpmysoutherndynasty qualified for the Heritage Place Futurity-G1, finishing sixth in the $1,022,260 event on May 30.
Bill Price bred Bpmysoutherndynasty out of mul- tiple stakes winner and New Track Record setter Bp Southern Mariah. She has produced 100% money earners from eight starters. Bpmysoutherndynasty is her first stakes winner.
Runner-up Conspicuously Sweet (One Sweet Jess-Conspicuous Dynasty) showed the way briefly before being caught by the winner but held on gamely for second under Justine Klaiber. The brown filly is owned by Melany Shatz, John Bird, and Jack Eklund and is trained by Eddie Willis.
Sunsetby The Sea (Turbulent Times- C S At Sunset) and jockey Cody Wainscott pressed the early pace and held third for owner/trainer Ty Remington.
Might B Jesse (Mighty B Valiant-Sheza Pretty Jesse), Out First Hero (Valiant Hero-Preslee the First), and Ferarri Tyme (Freighttrain B-Ferarri Fast Prize) completed the order of finish. By Rocky Top was scratched.
