Rocky Heinzig Stakes
TAC N DALE
by Michael Compton
Tac N Dale, fresh off a game allowance score, joined the rank of stakes winners after mak- ing short work of five rivals in the $25,000 Rocky Heinzig Stakes at Fair Meadows on July 24.
Ridden by Justine Klaiber, Tac N Dale grabbed the lead just away from the starting gate in the 350- yard event. The bay gelding widened his advantage through the lane, and powered to a 1 1/4-length vic- tory. In winning the first stakes race of his career, Tac N Dale stopped the timer in :17.817 and earned an 88 speed index in the decisive win. The victory was his third in five tries at Fair Meadows.
Owned and bred by Dusty Rose Ranch LLC and conditioned by Shane Seaton, Tac N Dale improved his record to 18-4(1)-3-2 and the $14,946 winner’s share of the purse increased his earnings to $106,700.
Dusty Rose Ranch LLC bred Tac N Dale out of winner Docs Dusty Dale. She has produced 100% money earners from two starters. Tac N Dale is her first stakes winner.
Runner-up Relentless Jessie (Hes Relentless-Jess
a Queen) came in second with jockey Daniel Torres aboard for owner Manuel Francisco Mata and trainer Manuel Mata. The graded stakes-placed runner was bred in Oklahoma by Bob Moore Farms LLC. The filly finished third in the Belles Stakes and Jack Brooks Stakes earlier this year.
Mighty Tamale (Mighty B Valiant-Real Hot Tamale), with jockey Rolando Raudales riding for owner/breeder Ellen Kennedy and trainer Luis Villafranco, hit the board for the second time this year, finishing third. The gelding was a finalist in the Sooner State Stakes-G1 in April.
Miss Fly On Tac (Tac It Like A Man-Peek To Fly), EOS A Political Win (Apollitical Jess-Pithia) and Giant Courage (Captain Courage-Deelish) completed the order of finish.
Masterpiece Derby
SOUTHERN ELECTRIC
by Michael Compton
Entering the Masterpiece Derby for 3-year-old Paints at Fair Meadows on July 25, World Champion Southern Electric was clearly the most
accomplished of the compact group of six squaring off over 350 yards. As expected, the gelded son of CRM Livewire was sent off as the odds-on choice in the $16,950 test and he justified the favoritism with an authoritative victory.
With his regular rider Andrew Samaniego aboard, Southern Electric raced in fourth position early with the filly, Twisted Fashion, showing the way in front. Her lead was short-lived, however, as Southern Electric made a decisive move to take com- mand and willingly drew away in the stretch to score by 1 1/4- lengths.
In winning for 11th time in 17 lifetime starts, Southern Electric stopped the timer in :17.795. Trained by Ty Blackwell, Southern Electric’s final clocking earned an 89 speed index. The $10,116 winner’s share of the purse increased his earnings to $228,253 for owners and breeders Dan and Kaye Jones.
The Jones bred Southern Electric out of lightly raced Ze Southern Girl. She has produced 100% money earners from three starters.
Twisted Fashion (CRM Livewire-Ima Fashionista) finished a game second under Justine Klaiber for owners Lake and Ledona Newcomb and Leslie Ann Rothbell. Eddie Willis trains the 3-year- old filly who was denied a second straight win at Fair Meadows after taking an allowance dash on June 20.
PHQ Apollitical Jess (Apollitical Jess-PHQ Princes Stef) and jockey Rolando Raudales dueled early and held third for owner Painted Faith Racing and trainer Dee Keener.
Bell N Wire (CRM Livewire-Junglebell), Charlie Rising (CRM Livewire-Rare Wine), and High Rate Of Fury (High Rate Of Return-Twist Of Furty) fol- lowed. Babe Wired was scratched.
AQHA GPR Distaff Challenge
LOVELY CUVEE
by Danny Camp
Lovely Cuvee notched her first stakes victory in the $25,432 AQHA Evergreen Park Distaff Challenge on July 26.
Ridden by J. Botello, the 3-year-old filly broke in fourth from the 3-post. She steadily gained ground, beating First Prize Cruise by 1/2-length.
Lovely Cuvee completed the 400 yards in :20.622, which was good for an 84 speed index.
The bay filly brought home the $12,716 winner’s share of the purse for owner Beckham Ranch and trainer Allen Goodsell, boosting her total lifetime earnings to $29,967. The filly was also a finalist in the 2019 Black Gold 440 Championship Futurity at Will Rogers Downs.
Gentry Farms bred Lovely Cuvee out of Mildred N Vessels Memorial Handicap-G1 winner Fovee, who is a half-sister to King Rick Rack Stakes winner Funny Munny and Los Alamitos Super Derby-G1 runner-up Scatmandu. Fovee also won the Los Alamitos Distaff Challenge-G3. She has produced nine winners from 10 starters, including stakes placed Recognize, who was second in the Firecracker Futurity-G2, and Sweet 16, who was a runner-up in the Indiana Grand Classic. Lovely Cuvee is her first stakes winner.
First Prize Cruise (First Prize Doc-Eye Cruise) and Martin Ortiz came in second for owner/trainer Tom Kenway. The filly finished third in last year’s Evergreen Park Distaff Challenge.
Getit Hot (Walk Thru Fire-Getit Together) finished in third under Richard Moreno for owner Charles Stojan and trainer William Leech. The filly won last year’s Evergreen Park Derby Challenge and All Canadian Derby.
Atomic Blondie (Birdzilla TB-Sables Val), Knotty Knita (First Timber-Ima Jess A Streaker) and Papas Coleen (First Timber-Cash In This Lane) completed the order of finish.
