                 Independence Day H.-G3
RITE QUICK
by Tracy Gantz
Rite Quick proved he could handle a more traditional distance of 300 yards in winning the $25,000 Independence Day Handicap-G3 at Los
Alamitos on July 3. Earlier this year, he scored at 110 yards in the Blink Of An Eye Handicap, setting a New Track Record.
With Erasmo Gasca aboard, Rite Quick broke on top in the Independence Day. He never relinquished his advantage, scoring by a 1/2-length in :15.265.
Yanet Rodriguez trains Rite Quick for owner Alberto Rosiles. Rite Quick also ran second in this year’s Super Sound Charge Handicap and Cypress Handicap. Dr. Steve Burns bred Rite Quick in California and sold him for $30,000 at the 2016 Los Alamitos Equine Sale.
“Rite Quick is a very nice horse,” said Rodriguez. “He gives it his all every time.”
Rite Quick is out of Iba Quick Chick, winner
of the 1999 Dashing Folly Handicap and a full
sister to multiple stakes winner IB Chick Quick. Iba Quick Chick has produced seven winners from eight starters, including stakes-placed Mental Error and My Pillow.
Eduardo Nicasio rode Tac Me Up (Kiddy Up-Tacatrina) to second for owners Ruth Barbour and Colten and Wendy O’Dell and trainer Christoper O’Dell. Tac Me Up won the 2020 Cypress Handicap and 2018 Autumn Handicap.
Alamode (Kiddy Up-Pie Maid) ran third under jockey Juan Leon for owner Genaro Martinez and trainer John Cooper. The 5-year-old gelding won the 2020 Mr Jet Moore Handicap.
Ali Babe Foose (Foose-Babe On The Fly), Galloping Goddess (One Sweet Jess-Ingrate Queen), Red Hawk Cartel (Favorite Cartel-Red Hawk Chick), My Favorite Legacy (Favorite Cartel-Miss Inseprable) and Cartel Rocks (Five Bar Cartel-Snow Rock) completed the order of finish.
Calif. Brds. Debutante Stakes
ALL PRETTIED UP
by Tracy Gantz
It was very much a family affair in the winner’s circle after All Prettied Up captured the $25,000 California Breeders Debutante at Los Alamitos on
July 26. Oscar Andrade Jr. rode the filly for his aunt, trainer Angela Aquino.
“I was trying not to cry,” said Aquino. “I was super happy that he chose her because I know he had three other calls in there.”
Andrade broke All Prettied Up out of the gate on top in the Debutante. The filly flew home, leading the entire way, to score by 3/4-lengths as the 13-10 favorite. She completed the 350 yards in :17.772, which was good for an 89 speed index.
Aquino trains All Prettied Up for owner Ashley Garcia. The owner purchased the filly for $15,000 from breeder Dr. Steven Burns’ Burns Ranch at the 2018 Los Alamitos Equine Sale. All Prettied Up finished third in the La Pacifica Handicap earlier this year.
Burns bred All Prettied Up out of winner Pretty Jet High. The mare has produced 18 winners from 23 starters, including stakes winners Van Zant and Cowboy 109 and four stakes-placed runners. All Prettied Up is her third stakes winner.
Cruz Mendez rode Look Of Love MV (Walk Thru Fire-Take A Look) to second for owner Juan Humberto Moya and trainer Jose Flores. Look Of Love MV had previously won once and finished second twice.
Dr. Ed Allred’s homebred Strong Willed (Foose- Hard Lining) finished third under jockey Jesus Ayala for trainer James Glenn Jr. The filly was coming off back-to-back victories.
Evee (Favorite Cartel-Hope To Cope), Chalala Favorite (Favorite Cartel-Chalala Jess) and Chancer (Favorite Cartel-Elans Last) completed the order of finish, while Jess A Favorite Kiss and Mia Cartel were both scratched.
Calif. Brds. Freshman Stakes
LA REINA DEL SUR 1
by Tracy Gantz
Sally Rivera has trained primarily Thoroughbreds since she began conditioning 40 years ago in Arizona. However, she has been racing La Reina Del Sur 1 at Los Alamitos and entered the filly in the $25,000 California Breeders Freshman Stakes on July 25. The only filly after the scratch of Sassies Blues Girl, La Reina Del Sur 1 gave Rivera her first Quarter Horse stakes victory in the race.
La Reina Del Sur 1, ridden by Juan Leon,
took the lead immediately. She pulled out to a 2 1/2-length lead midway through the 350 yards and coasted home a length on top in :17.713, posting a 91 speed index.
In her four previous races, La Reina Del Sur
1 qualified for the Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity-G2 and ran fourth in the final. She won her trial for the Governor’s Cup Futurity-RG1, but just missed qualifying.
Rivera trains La Reina Del Sur 1 for Abel Reyes, who bred the filly out of lightly raced Go First N Famous. She has produced 100% money earners from two starters. La Reina Del Sur 1 is her first stakes winner.
Dr. Ed Allred’s homebred Monopolist (Favorite Cartel-Nymph) finished second. Jesus Ayala rode the gelding for trainer James Glenn Jr. Monopolist broke his maiden in his initial outing.
Flex Jet (Favorite Cartel-Jetsetter), also bred by Allred but owned by Ernesto Parra, ran third under jockey Ruben Lozano. Ramiro Zuazo trains the gelding, who was claimed from Allred for $12,500 when winning his first start.
Completing the field were Faruk (Seperate Interest-KGB Agent Anna), EG Domingo (Hawkinson-City Image), From Above (Kiddy Up-Celestial Being TB) and Fool This Kid (Kiddy Up-Fool The Boys). El Katie Cartel and Sassies Blues Girl were scratched.
