Firecracker Futurity
LOUISANA BUNNY
by Danny Camp
In just her second career start, Louisana Bunny cap- tured the $60,000 Firecracker Futurity at Grants Pass on July 6.
Ridden by Luis Gonzales, the filly broke on top from the 7-post. They held the lead throughout the 350 yards, crossing the wire a nose in front. Trained by Nick Lowe, they completed their wire-to-wire victory in :17.764, posting a 90 speed index.
Louisana Bunny brought home the $24,000 winner’s share of the purse for owner/breeder Lee Markholt, boosting her total bankroll to $24,600.
Her only other start comes from her June 17 trial where she finished third, posting the ninth fastest qualifying time.
Markholt bred Louisana Bunny out of winner My Best Bunny Yet, who finished third in the Portland Meadows Fall Derby and Grants Pass Derby. Louisana Bunny is her first foal.
Louisana Bunny’s second dam is Northwest Hi-Point Three-Year-Old Filly Royal Time Bunny, who was a runner-up in the Far West Futurity and Portland Meadows Derby.
Relentless Six (Hes Relentless-Struttin Sixs) won his June 17 trial heat and ran a steady and even race to pocket second place money under Ruben Lozano for owner Silvia Carmona and trainer Danny Montes.
Jess Ozzy (Jess My Moon-Jungle Song) ran a gritty third for owners Ralph Young and Sandy Battles. The Treece Figueroa trainee was ridden by Jose Figueroa. The gelding has one victory from three starts.
Skyywalker (Fly Chisolm Fly-La Jackye), Diva This (Favorite Cartel-Hannas Halo), Empire Builder (First Down Dash-Jesst A Dream) and L Bar D Rosie Lee (Hawkinson-Be First Rose) completed the order of finish. CM Dillingham Advice, Coopers Best Card and Dahock were scratched.

JESS A LITTLE MORE
by John Moorehouse
After seven straight races without a victory, Jess A Little More picked an opportune time to end his winless drought. The sophomore gelding won the $47,311 Adequan Grants Pass Derby Challenge by daylight at Grants Pass on July 7.
Jess A Little More finished third in his June 23 derby trial, albeit to the two fastest qualifiers. He proved to be the quickest in his first career stakes final, however, breaking from the inside gate on the lead and sporting a 1/2-length lead by the time he entered the stretch. The gelding pulled away late, with a 1 1/2-length margin as he hit the wire.
Danny Montes trains Jess A Little More, who had Ruben Lozano aboard. The gelding, who
is owned by Silvia Aparicio, finished his trip in :19.684, posting a 107 speed index and reaping a $21,763 payday to increase his earnings to $25,280.
Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches LP bred Jess A Little More out of winner Jess Jazzin. She has produced 100% money earners from three starters.
MC Una Aguila crossed the finish line sec-
ond but got disqualified for interference. That elevated Honeys Painted Pop (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Gols Honey Money Pop) to runner-up honors. The gelding is owned by Buckey Stockwell, Tracey Beackstead, and Bob Perlich. The Hector Magallanes trainee had Alberto Zepeda aboard. Approval Given (Kiddy Up-Just Checking) finished third under Jose Guerrero for owners Travis Boersma and Emilio Guerrero, who also trains the gelding.
Jess Candy Lips (Jess Lips-Candies Coconut) was fourth, followed by MC Una Aguila (One Dashing Eagle-DLT Runaway), One Flyin Foose (Foose-One Famous Strawfly), Ur My Chick (Walk Thru Fire- Thatsa Blazin Chick), JS American Radical (Radical Splash-All American Phantom), Blue Bangles (Feature Mr Bojangles-Afterglow) and DQ’d from 6th to last Just Watch Him (Foose-Watch Her Walk).

BAIL CZECH
by Tracy Gantz
Enrique Gonzalez’s EG High Desert Farms completed a California Breeders Champions triple when Bail Czech won the $100,000 Spencer
L. Childers California Breeders Championship Handicap-RG1 at Los Alamitos on July 26. The farm previously had twice won the Governor’s Cup Derby-RG2 and had one Governor’s Cup Futurity-RG1 victory, but had never won the Spencer L. Childers.
With Jesus Ayala aboard, Bail Czech went off as the 5-2 third choice in the field of five for the 400-yard Spencer Childers. He broke inwardly, but on top, and remained in front throughout. Despite drifting out, Bail Czech scored by a 1/2-length in :19.690, posting a 95 speed index.
“He is a nice horse; he always tries,” said trainer Jesus Nunez.
Bail Czech, who has spent his entire career at Los Alamitos, got his first stakes victory last year in the Vandys Flash Handicap. He also finished third in the 2018 Holiday Handicap.
EG High Desert bred Bail Czech out of home- bred stakes winner Letty Bail Regis Out. The mare has three starters, all winners, including stakes win- ners Diamonds Blue Eye and A Mere Bail.
Dr. Ed Allred’s homebred Transcend (Walk Thru Fire-In Another World) finished second. Vinnie Bednar rode the 4-year-old gelding for trainer Scott Willoughby. Transcend finished third in the 2019 PCQHRA Breeders Derby-G3.
Cruz Mendez piloted Tools In The Sky (First Down Dash-No Tools Required) to third for own- ers Jose Nieves Garcia and Armando Romero, and trainer Jose Flores. Tools In The Sky finished fourth in the 2018 All American Futurity-G1.
Yanque (Favorite Cartel-Red Hawk Chick) fin- ished fourth with Cavuto (Foose-Sizzling PJ) fifth. Chocolatito and Cole Man 47 were scratched.
