Nolans Theory, a homebred gray gelding, got up at the wire to win the $50,000 By By JJ Stakes for New Mexico-bred 2 year olds at Ruidoso Downs
on July 29.
Racing for Bob and Sissie McClure of
Gardendale, Texas, Nolans Theory covered 400 yards in :20.375 against a reported 7-mph head wind. Raul Ramirez Jr. rode the gelding for trainer Harvey Baeza.
Nolans Theory was coming off of a fourth-place finish, 1 1/4-lengths behind Bigg Daddy in a Zia Futurity-RG1 trial on July 15.
Nolans Theory is one of six winners from seven starters out of multiple graded stakes winner Shez Classy Now. Nolans Theory is a half brother to Latest Theory, who ran second in the 2014 Adequan Ruidoso Derby Challenge Stakes, and In Class,
a finalist in the June 3 400-yard Heritage Place Derby-G2 at Remington Park. All told, the gelding has won two of five starts, and the $21,000 winner’s share of the By By JJ Stakes purse increased his earn- ings to $26,490.
Miss Woody James (Jesse James Jr-Woodys Allstar), the 19-10 favorite, ran second. G.R. Carter Jr. rode the homebred filly for owners Joe Dee Brooks, Ted Rushing, and Lee Lewis and trainer Mike Joiner.
Siximoons (First Moonflash-Stevie Six) fin- ished third for owners Jerry Bailey and Tres Mesa Horses. Salvador Martinez rode the gelding for trainer Wes Giles.

Tough Dynasty 123 is well named because he does have a stellar family history. His dam, Hot Cash 123, has produced both a World Champion Quarter Horse and Paint. The Michigan-bred is living up to his roots, scoring in the July 23 Rainbow Juvenile Invitational at Ruidoso Downs.
Second in his first out in the July 8 trials for the Rainbow Futurity-G1 by a nose, Tough Dynasty 123 in the Juvenile broke second under jockey Jose Montoya. The gelding drifted in and then put on a burst of speed to score by 1/2-length in :19.910 for 400 yards. The $42,000 winner’s share boosted his earnings lifetime earnings to $42,880.
Sleepy Gilbreath trains Tough Dynasty 123 for owner/breeder Carolyn Bay. Gilbreath and Bay also teamed up on Hot Cash 123’s World Champions— the Quarter Horse Cold Cash 123 and the Paint
I Do One Two Three. The mare has produced six Quarter Horse winners in eight starters.
Hes Limitless (Corona Cartel-PJ Chick In Black) finished second under jockey Agustin Silva. John Steinbaugh trains the colt for Jack Smith Farms. Hes Limitless finished second in a Remington Park trial and third, upon a disqualification, in his Rainbow Futurity trial. Stanley Forbes’ homebred Jess Shantastic (Fantastic Corona Jr-Jesses Candy) ran third. Adrian Ramos piloted the filly for trainer Tony Sedillo. Jess Shantastic finished second in her two previous starts.

The Champion Distance Horse of 2016 Coronas Boy captured the victory proving the best in the 870-yard Zia 870 Championship at Ruidoso Downs on July 30.
Coronas Boy broke third from the 3-post and held that position going into the stretch where he was 2 1/2-lengths behind the leader. With Jose Ortiz aboard, the gelding started gaining ground and ran down the leaders to finish a neck in front. Coronas Boy stopped the clock at :46.298, earning a 90 speed index.
The $30,000 winner’s share of the $50,000 purse ups his lifetime earnings to $548,626. His race record stands at 38-11(6)-5(3)-5(1), winning his last four of five outs. His team includes owner Victor Diaz and trainer Martin Orona Jr.
Homebred in New Mexico, Coronas Boy is out of lightly-raced My First Corona. She has produced 100% money earners from six starters, including 4-time winner and graded stakes finalist Watch For Corona. Coronas Boy is her first stakes winner and top earner.
D E Wagons Strawfly (Genuine Strawfly-Wagons Maiden) broke from the far outside and at the top of the stretch had the lead and was able to hang on for second place for owner/trainer Tony Sedillo. Jorge Bourdieu was in the irons.
Tag Yur It (Roll Hennessy Roll TB-Upside Down) had the rail and the lead for a bit, but fell behind late for third place money for owner 3 L Racing Partners and trainer Lauren Fincher. Ruby Gonzalez had the riding assignment.
Wyatt TB (Pro Prado-Jackie Legs), Weappear TB (Devon Lane-Reappear), Swiss Chris (Swissle Stick TB-Ace Crystal Charm), Oly Oly In Free (Voice Of Reason-Ole’elena TB) Jess Excessive (Jess A Chicks-Excessive Victory TB) completed the order of finish.
