Less than a week after Jess A Hilbily Bone ran third in the 870-yard Zoetis Albuquerque Downs Distance Challenge-G3, the homebred 6-year-old
gelding rallied to win the $20,000 Bobby Dan Crenshaw Memorial Stakes for Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds at Ruidoso Downs on July 29.
Jess A Hilbily Bone defeated I Have No Clue TB by a neck while covering 1,000 yards in :53.440. Benito Baca rode Jess A Hilbily Bone for owner Rockin J Running Horses of Gatesville, Texas, and trainer Tammy Kay Johnson.
Jess A Hilbily Bone was making his third con- secutive start in the Bobby Dan Crenshaw Memorial. The gelding won the stakes in 2015 and ran second last year.
Jess A Hilbily Bone is out of 2-time winner Imaginiff, who has produced 100% winner’s from three starters including stakes winner Rock A Billy who won this year’s AQHA Albuquerque Distance Challenge on July 23. Both geldings trace back to their fourth dam, 2-time Champion Aged Mare Denim N Diamonds.
Campaigned in New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma, Jess A Hilbily Bone has won nine of 37 races, and his three career stakes victories include the $50,000 Remington Park Distance Championship-G2 on June 3.
I Have No Clue TB (Attila’s Storm-Innes) was ridden to 2nd by J. Villanueva for owner Sherree Meridyth and trainer Guadalupe Munoz Jr.
Trubador Dan (Pool-Jess Amy) ran third for owner Pat Hybarger. Esgar Ramirez rode the sorrel 4-year-old gelding for trainer Eddie D. Willis.

APOLLITICAL WAVE

The time was right for Apollitical Wave, who sur- prised in the $35,000 TQHA Classic Stakes-RG3 on July 28 at Retama Park. Javier Garza’s home- bred colt came flying late to secure winner’s honors despite being a 21-1 underdog at post time.
Trained by Frank Mendez, Apollitical Wave was running near the back of he field early before making a big finish underneath jockey Franscisco Mendez. His game run for the front culminated as he surpassed Red Corona Warrior and reached the finish line first sporting a 1/2-length separation.
Finishing the 400 yards in :19.851, Apollitical Wave clocked a career-best 99 speed index and secured a $24,000 payday for Garza that boosted the total earnings of the colt to $41,481.
Making his 11th career out, Apollitical Wave recorded his second overall victory and his first in stakes company. The colt already had black type. In his most recent prior start he finished third in the Streakin La Jolla Stakes at Louisiana Downs.
Apollitical Wave becomes the first stakes winner out of his dam, stakes placed Wave Running. She has produced 100% earners from four starters. 2016 Texas Hi-Point 3-Year-Old Colt Apollitical Wave is her first stakes winner and top earner.
Red Corona Warrior (Coronas Fast Dash- Prairie War Princess) finished second under Damian Martinez for Almada Racing and trainer Josue Ponce. Kraken Black (First Down Mr Jess- Lajollaslastthought) placed third under Eddie Sanchez for owner/trainer Santiago Rojas, Jr.

TQHA 550 Stakes-RG3
HE IS THE RISINGSTAR

He Is The Risingstar added yet another stakes victory to his already decorated resume making a late surge to take first place in the $30,000 TQHA
550 Stakes-RG3 at Retama Park on July 28.
The 5-year-old gelding now holds five wins in
stakes company, all coming previouisly in events held at Los Alamitos, although this marked his first victory in a restricted or graded event. Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches LP owns He Is The Risingstar and col- lected a $19,800 payday that improved the gelding’s total earnings to $148,770.
A trainee of L.R. Jordan, He Is The Risingstar made a smart break from the 2-gate and established himself as a strong second behind JRC Callas First. Jockey Jose Alvarez urged He Is The Risingstar into a driving finish during the stretch and overtook JRC Callas First to win the race by 3/4-length and notch his first victory since Jan. 20, when he repeated in the Barbra B Handicap.
The gelding completed his 550-yard trip in :27.075, registering a 109 speed index while running into an 8 mph headwind.
Mercy Hinklins Horse Farm, LLC, bred He Is The Risingstar, who also won the Paul Bradford Memorial in 2015 & 2016. He is one of three stakes winners out of Meddlin Mischief. The most accomplished member of the brood is Diamond Tres Seis, who holds 5 stakes wins and has earned nearly $300,000.
Dana and Brian Stroud own JRC Callas First (Winners Award-Calla Missy Jane), who is trained by Brian Stroud and had Juan Garcia, Jr. aboard. Bar Struck (Corona For Me-Miss Manolo) placed third for owner Julio Cesar Ramirez and trainer Eusevio Huitron. Damian Martinez did the riding.
Corona La Jolla (Tinys First Corona-Mary La Jolla), This Is A Deal (Dealagame-Lady Lilia) and Heza Crazy Pool (Pool-Shesa Crazy Chick) com- pleted the field.
