Rex Wells’ Bigg Dee broke sharply from post 7 and led at every call en route to a clear 1 1/4-length victory in the July 26, $50,000 Zia Juvenile Stakes-R for New Mexico-bred 2-year- old Quarter Horses.
Ridden by Mario Delgado, Bigg Dee covered 400 yards in :19.793 on a sealed track officially labeled “good.” James Gonzales II prepped the bay son of Big Daddy Cartel.
Bigg Dee was bred by Mac and Janis Murray’s MJ Farms at Veguita, New Mexico, and he was purchased by Wells for $30,000 at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs. The gelding’s sire, Big Daddy Cartel, is a winning 11-year-old son of the Holland Ease stallion Corona Cartel.
Raced exclusively in New Mexico in 2011, Big Daddy Cartel earned $121,800 from five starts, and he was a finalist in
the Grade 1 All American and Rainbow futurities. The stallion has sired the earners of more than $8.3 million from five crops, including multiple graded stakes winner and 2017 All American Futurity runner-up Bigg
Daddy, and multiple graded stakes winners Cat Daddys Lil Girl, Mamacita Cartel, and Daddys Blushing.
Big Daddy Cartel is owned by and stands for a $5,500 fee at MJ Farms.
Bigg Dee is out of Miss Woody Dee, a homebred 11-year-old daughter of the Dash Ta Fame stallion Woodbridge. His second dam, the Mr Jess Perry mare Deeheiress, won the ’04 Miss Princess Handicap-G3 at Los Alamitos. The gelding traces back to his third dam, Deelish, a daughter of First Down Dash and the AQHA Champion 2-Year-Old Filly in 1998 and Champion Aged Mare in 2000.
Bigg Dee was coming off of a second-place finish, 2 1/2-lengths behind fastest qualifier Cristom, in the last of 11 Zia Futurity-RG1 trials on July 10. The gelding has won two of four outs, and the $21,000 winner’s share of the purse from his first stakes victory boosted his bankroll to $25,700.
Out N Gone finished second and was fol- lowed by Famous Clyde, Have Another One,
Cruse, CC Moonflash, Heza Classy Now, Im Jess Sixy, Budget Bomber, and Señor Cartel.
Out N Gone banked $9,000 for owner Cream of the Crop Inc. A $10,000 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale, the Jesse James Jr gelding has earned $11,520 from three races.
Famous Clyde is a gelded son of Winners Version campaigned by Drew Swasey. Famous Clyde has banked $10,900 from three outs.

  Rogers Farms’ Wascallywittlewabbit kept his perfect 5 year old season intact with a wire-to- wire, 2 1/2-length victory in the July 26, $50,000 Zia 870 Championship-R at Ruidoso Downs.
One of four Quarter Horses in the seven- horse field, Wascallywittlewabbit covered 870 yards on a muddy and sealed track in :45.089. Benito Baca rode the 5-year-old son of Heza Motor Scooter for trainer Mike Joiner.
Wascallywittlewabbit was bred by Mike Weatherly. The bay gelding’s sire, the Heza Fast Man stallion Heza Motor Scooter, earned $259,682 from 26 races in California and New Mexico from 2000-02, and his seven wins included the ‘01 El Primero del Ano Derby-G2 at Los Alamitos. A 1998 foal, Heza Motor Scooter has sired the earners of more than $3.8 million from nine crops, including stakes winners 2019 New Mexico Cup 870 Championship-R winner Why Buy The Cow, stakes winner Queen Arabella, and ‘16 Zia Futurity-RG1 runner-up Machismo Moon.
Wascallywittlewabbit’s dam, Rabbits N Diamonds, is an unraced 12-year-old daughter
of the Yawls Rabbit stallion Rabbits Rainbow. His second dam, the Coup de Kas TB mare Shines Likea Diamond, won the 1998 KHEY/ Y96 Handicap at Sunland Park and was a finalist in the ‘99 West Texas-G3 and Sunland Park Winter-G3 derbies.
Wascallywittlewabbit was coming off of a half-length win in a June 26, 870-yard allow- ance race for New Mexico-breds at Ruidoso Downs. He has won five of 13 starts, including four of seven at the 870-yard distance and all three of his races this year, and the $30,000 winner’s share of the purse from his first stakes victory boosted his earnings to $85,787.
Regards Miracle finished second and was followed by Hollywood Henry TB, Dan The Flashman, Weappear TB, Diabolical Ruler TB, and Rod James.
Regards Miracle is a 6-year-old son of Chicks Regard owned by Joe Dee Brooks,
Ted Rushing, Scott Bryant, and Lee Lewis. A $60,000 yearling purchase at the 2015 New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs, the sorrel gelding has won five of 23 outs, including the
‘18 New Mexico Cup 870 Championship (R) at Zia Park, and he has banked $205,973.
Hollywood Henry, one of three Thoroughbreds in the race, races for Bennie A. Vanecek. A $17,500 yearling buy at the 2016 New Mexico-Bred Sale, the 5-year-old Roll Hennessy Roll TB gelding has earned $266,696 from 24 starts, and his eight wins include a neck victory in last year’s 4 1/2-fur- long, $85,000 Mt. Cristo Rey Handicap-R at Sunland Park.
