GENUINE VERSION
by John Moorehouse
Genuine Version earned black-type after winning the $33,600 Utah Bred Futurity at Wyoming Downs on July 23. A Chad Giles trainee,
Genuine Version went wire-to-wire in his July 9 trial, taking the 3rd fastest qualifying position in :17.556. The sorrel gelding was even faster in the finals, com- pleting the race once again in wire-to-wire fashion and this time stopping the clock in :17.468 for a career-best 103 speed index.
Genuine Version had no equal in the Utah Bred Futurity, breaking on top from the 2-post, leading by a nose at the 1st call and maintaining that slim advantage entering the stretch. Regular rider Oscar Cervantes kept Genuine Version on course, and he beat GM Picture Perfect to the wire by a head.
Owned by Gary Laramie & Janet Oakeson, Genuine Version now holds 3 victories in 5 starts. That win total also includes his trial for the Sherm Hadley/ Giles Futurity, which qualified him to the finals where he finished last after stumbling badly at the start.
The Utah Bred Futurity $15,972 winners’ share boosted Genuine Version’s earnings to $19,753.
Allreds Horse Haven bred Genuine Version and home-bred his dam, Audy B Flyin, a lightly-raced mare who has produced 4 starters from 5 offspring.
