Sent to post as the 11-10 favorite in a field of six, Daring And Dashing responded with an impres- sive victory in the $20,000 Tricky Dust Stakes at Ruidoso Downs on June 25.
Daring And Dashing broke well and quickly took the lead, covering the 870 yards on a sloppy and sealed track in :46.036 with a winning margin of 1 1/4-lengths.
Judd Kearl prepped Daring And Dashing for owner Triple K Farms of Riverside, Utah.
Campaigned in five different states, Daring And Dashing has won four of 17 starts - including three of five at the 870-yard distance - and he has banked $52,068 with this $12,000 winner’s share.
Daring And Dashing was bred in Texas by James G. Markum of Glen Ellen, Illinois. The gelding
is one of two winners from four starters foaled by Splendifferous, a winning 10-year-old who ran second in the 2010 Los Alamitos Distaff Challenge Stakes-G3 and was a finalist in the ’08 Golden State Million Futurity-G1.
Daring And Dashing’s 1/2-sister, Tallulah Moon, won the 2014 John Deere Retama Juvenile Challenge. The gelding’s second dam, Daring Difference, won the ’94 Heritage Place Futurity-G1 at Remington Park and was a finalist in the All American Futurity-G1.
CJs Rocksolid (Rock Solid Jess-Sultry Miss) finished 2nd and was ridden by J.R. Valenzuela for trainer Tammy Kay Johnson. The homebred gelding races for Rockin J Running Horses. Ocean Smoke (Ocean Runaway-Smokin) ran 3rd. Jose Enrique Ortiz rode the gelding for owners Diamond P Ranch and IRR Trust and trainer Tony Sedillo. When Heasablackmagic scampered away from the 6-post in the $29,000 Par-A-Dice Stakes on June 30 at Delta Downs, he dropped down on his belly like a cutting horse. He dug in the ground and it was an impressive break. The 5-year-old gelding was out on the lead and was never headed. At the end of the 300-yards, he demolished the field by 1 3/4-lengths.
David Alvarez was in the saddle for the race and, after a few jumps, had the good sense to sit quiet and enjoy the moment. When they crossed the line, the clock said :15.005. That’s a speed index of 105 and a career high for Heasablackmagic.
The first place check of $21,000 takes his bankroll to $145,020, and his race record is now 7 wins from 22 outs. He has won his last three of four starts, and the last two in a row with Alvarez aboard. Heasablackmagic also finished 2nd in the 2014 Louisiana Champions Day Derby-RG3, 3rd in the 2014 Amelia Belle Stakes, and 5th in last year’s Miss Polly Classic-G1.
Heasablackmagic is owned by Juan A. Carrillo and trained by Juan A. Carrillo, and was bred in Louisiana by Gerald Paul Vidrine out of winner
& Grade 3 finalist Toast Of Magic. The mare has produced 3 winners from 4 starters, including stakes placed Look Of Magic. Heasablackmagic is her first stakes winner and top earner.
On the outside it was Potus (Toast To Dash-Toole N Round) in 2nd with a late rush under Noe Villatoro for owner Pat Allen & trainer Judd Kearl. Fantaztico (Fdd Dynasty-Eyesa Jumpn) ran a steady race to take 3rd under Damien Martinez for owner Jose J. Espinoza & trainer Adrian Huitron. Followed by Deala Ryon (Dealagame-Six A Ryon) Wild Tycoon (Tempting Dash-First Down Hemp) Firefly Fortune (Jet Black Patriot-Toast To Fortune) Cartel Jr (Corona Cartel-Shes Takes All) Jjs Black Lace (Jet Black Patriot-Lethal N Lace) Voncitas Game (Game Patriot-Voncita) Oak Tree Eye Opener (Oak Tree Special-Eyes Of Lela).
