Paint racing supporter wendell Blankenship Laid torest
Longtime Paint racing breeder and supporter Wendell Blankenship of Lubbock, Texas, died May 21. He was 75.
Wendell bred more than 100 registered Paints in his lifetime, many of which earned APHA racing honors.
“Wendell had a lifelong love of horses and
was involved in Paint Horse racing for over 40
years. He was a stock provider for the Professional Bullriders Association. Wendell was also a rancher and was always ‘at home’ at the ranch; he was
always a rancher at heart,” the obituary on kornerstonefunerals.com stated. “He was a pilot and flew for business and chasing horse races everywhere.
“He had a unique intensity about him, and enjoyed seeing people doing well and working hard. Wendell said he truly believed that God put him on this earth to “work.” That he did! He loved his family and was the best at making people believe in themselves. With three kids, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, he had ample opportunity to do just that.”
Greener Pastures for Psychedelic scott
APHA Champion Solid Paint-Bred 2-Year- Old Gelding Psychedelic Scott was euthanized from stress founder in December of 2015. The 2013 gray solid gelding was by Judys Lineage and out of The Hippie Chick (QH).
Bred by Wendy Ingersoll and owned by
the Paint Horse Queens, Psychedelic Scott was crowned 2015 Champion Solid Paint-Bred 2-Year-Old Gelding and earned the number
one spot on the 2015 Solid Paint-Bred Gelding Racing Honor Roll. Over the course of his 2-year-old season, Psychedelic Scott earned more than $100,000 with four wins, three seconds and one third-place finish.
Wendy’s favorite memory of Psychedelic Scott was his win at Remington Park in the 2015 Grade 1 PSBA Futurity.
“The PSBA Futurity was my first stakes winner as a breeder,” Wendy said. “I bred him and I own the mare, so that was really special. I would say that’s the biggest win he had this season, although he also won the Pot O’Gold Futurity in convincing fashion.”
One special thing Wendy points out about Psychedelic Scott was his addition to the legacy
of Judys Lineage, a leading sire of elite Paint racehorses and one of only two APHA stallions who has surpassed $5 million in offspring earnings.
“He’s a Judys Lineage, and they’re not really able to breed him anymore,” Wendy said. “I had talked to Linda Bowlan several times, and she was so grateful that he was running as well as he did. We have another Judys Lineage this year out of a different mare that we hope can continue to add to the Judys Lineage legacy.”
