The Plan Handicap
TIMELY DELIVERY
by Tracy Gantz
The Idaho-California connection runs strong in Timely Delivery. Mark & Peggy Brown bred him in Idaho and race him in their name. They sent him to the Schvaneveldt Racing Stable in California for breaking and training before he returned to Idaho for his initial racing. Back in California, he captured The Plan Handicap at Los Alamitos on Sept. 11.
At the start of the 350-yard The Plan, Timely Delivery broke inward and bumped with horses
to his inside. Jockey Cesar DeAlba immediately straightened Timely Delivery, who responded well to get to the lead. He took dead aim on the wire and won by 1/2-length in :17.803.
At Les Bois Park, Mark Brown trained Timely Delivery, who won one of four races there. Trainer Rafael Orozco & Brenda Figueroa of Schvaneveldt Racing Stable worked with the gelding again after he returned to California. “This horse is a big, good looking Volcom gelding,” said Figueroa. “Mark and Peggy have some really nice horses.”
The Browns bred Timely Deliver from their home- bred mare One Prompt Chick, who has produced four winners in five starters, including One Prompt JJ, win- ner of the 2014 Idaho Cup Futurity and 2015 Florentine Overnight Handicap, and stakes-placed Air Bassett.
Gary & Jeralyn Messenger’s Fames Jess Sweet (One Sweet Jess-Go For Fame) was 2nd for jockey Carlos Huerta & trainer Donald Vickery. The filly was coming off back-to-back victories at Les Bois Park, including the Idaho Cup Futurity. Swiper B Sonic (Hawkinson-Yr Brown Lucy), a homebred for Reed Pierson, ran 3rd under jockey Cruz Mendez. Pierson trained the gelding in Idaho, and Paul Jones handled him at Los Alamitos. Followed by On Fire (Fire And Corona-Californias Chick), Ettago This (Favorite Cartel-Dashing Ettago), RGR First To Fire (First Down Illusion-Heart Fire), Elite Eight (Azyoucansee-Visual Evidence) & Dr Stellar (Stel Corona-Follow Her Down).
