$66,549 winner’s share of the purse increased his bankroll to $164,917. Bred in Texas by Juan Medina, Teller Ima Eagle is produced from the Teller Cartel mare Teller Baja.
One person who was not surprised by the Speedhorse Futurity outcome was Teller Ima Eagle’s trainer Troy Carter.
“He had a wonderful trip,” Carter said. “He ran a big race in his trial heat. He ran second, but he ran a great race. After that race—the very next day—he was alert and seemed like the race didn’t take anything out of him. He was a whole different horse this time.
“He sure has moved forward,” Carter continued. “He was a different horse in the finals. He was just standing there before the race like nothing was going on.”
As far as when he first recognized
that Teller Ima Eagle had big-horse potential, Carter replied, “When he won the Oklahoma Juvenile, that right there showed me that he is going to be something someday. And he sure is.”
While future opportunities will be plentiful for Teller Ima Eagle, Carter shared that the next target is undetermined. “I will talk to my owners, get together and talk about it,” he said. “Right now, we’re just letting him rest a little bit, and we’ll go from there.”
Speedhorse Futurity runner-up Flyght Song (Moonin the Eagle-Cartel Regards) turned in an excellent effort at odds of 44-1 to secure the place spot for owner Dana
Garcia and trainer Julio Rascon-Almanza. Bred in Texas by Bobby Cox, Flyght Son has placed in all four career starts. A $15,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate, the gray filly is still seeking her first win.
Sassie Savannah (KVN Corona-Waitin On Mindy), the fastest qualifier, finished in third place under jockey Rolando Raudales. The gray filly, a winner in her trial heat, is owned by Brett Winter, trained by Jake Eck, and was bred in Oklahoma by Cody and
Linda Joiner. She sold at last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale for $29,500.
JND Wagon (Lil Kool Wagon-Lady Hiclass) finished in fourth place and Rubys Night Out (Foose-Reds Gift), Tres A Royalty (Eye Am King-Tres Of Alice), RGS Gold Wagon (Prized Wagon-Ja Gols Debutante), General Hoss (BV Travelin Soldier- Fedricka), Meet Me Out Back (Dominyun- Dianetogetcha), and First Libby Lark (Im A Fancy PYC) completed the order of finish.
