Fastest qualifier from the July 9 trials, Foose Lodge made short work of nine rivals in the final of the $81,533 Speedhorse Derby on
July 23 at Fair Meadows Tulsa, winning the 350-yard dash from start to finish for owner Modesto Reyes.
Ridden by Roman Cruz, Foose Lodge set sail for the lead at the break, immediately opening a 1/2-length advantage.
Despite drifting in, Foose Lodge maintained a clear lead through the lane and won on cruise control by 1-length at the finish for his third consecutive win for trainer Julio Corral and fifth overall.
Foose Lodge stopped the timer in a lively :17.560, not far off the :17.066 track record set in 2012 by Chicks Smart Money. The winner’s final time earned a speed index of 101.
With the victory, Foose Lodge now boasts
a record of 13-5-2-2, and the $30,982 winner’s share of the Speedhorse Derby purse increased the bay gelding’s lifetime earnings to $113,368.
