Prairie Dash
DICKEY BOB
Dby Michael Compton
ickey Bob came up a bit short in the 2021
Prairie Dash Stakes—finishing a game third— but the 7-year-old gelding avenged that defeat in style on July 2 at Prairie Meadows.
With Edwin Escobedo in the irons, Dickey Bob broke alertly and took command of the 300-yard test after the start. He maintained a clear advantage through the lane and powered home unchallenged to score by a dominating 1 1/4-lengths. Dickey Bob stopped the timer in a fast hand-timed :15.320 and earned a 99 speed index in the facile victory. The wire-to-wire winner is trained by Jason Olmstead, who also sent out runner-up Kool and Fabulous.
Dickey Bob is a Minnesota homebred for Bruce and Judy Lunderborg. His latest success gives him 22 total wins out of 42 starts, half of which have come in black type races. The $10,000 winner’s share of the purse boosted his lifetime bankroll to $358,300, making him the highest money-earning Quarter Horse bred in Minnesota. Prior to his win in the Prairie Dash, Dickey Bob captured an allowance race at Remington Park and finished third in the Bob Moore Memorial Stakes-G2.
Dickey Bob’s stablemate Kool and Fabulous (One Fabulous Eagle-One Kool Wagon) finished second under jockey Armando Alvidrez. The 4-year- old stakes-winning filly is an Oklahoma homebred for Brenda Reiswig. Damn Strait (Dominyun- Hottesticketintown), piloted by Cristian Esqueda, rallied late to finish third for owner M.C. Stucks and trainer Stacy Charette-Hill. Bred by Bobby Cox, Damn Strait is a multiple graded stakes-placed performer and a 7-time winner.
My Midnight Candy (Jess Good Candy-Midnight Sunlight), Azola Baban (Lil Kool Wagon-Majestic Jet Black), Purty Darn Quick (Jess Louisiana Blue-Now Margaret), and Louisiana Blue Fire (Jess Louisiana Blue- Where Love Began) completed the order of finish.
