RS Valentino keeps racking up stakes wins
on the Indiana circuit. The latest came in the $58,960 Bradford Stakes at Horseshoe Indianapolis on July 13. The six-year-old gelding won the Bradford for the second straight year, after placing second in the 2020 running of the event.
Randy Smith trains WRS Valentino, who completed the 400-yard trip in :20.032 for a 91 speed index. Running second both at the first call and going into the stretch, WRS Valentino and rider Juan Marquez found an extra gear, getting to the front and hitting the wire first by a 1/2-length.
WRS Valentino reached the winner’s circle for
the tenth time in 19 career starts. The $32,428 first- place payday improved the gelding’s total bankroll to $411,846. WRS Valentino was the strong favorite at the betting window, going off at 4-5 odds at post time.
Williams Racing Stables home-bred WRS Valentino out of WRS Kissandteller, a 2009 mare.
Smith, the all-time leading Quarter Horse trainer in Indiana, had the training trifecta in this one. On
A New Note (One Fabulous Eagle-Corona Cerveza), who is owned by Brian Gunder, finished second
with Shanley Jackson in the irons. WRS Moonin Thewagon (Moonin The Eagle-WRS Quick Wagon), another Williams Racing Stables competitor and
a three-time stakes winner, hit the board in third. German Rodriguez drew the riding assignment.
