reaking sharply on top from the 3-post, Beach
Blast led at every call enroute to a clear 1 1/2-length victory in the $36,630 Indiana-Bred Stakes at Horseshoe Indianapolis on July 11.
Beach Blast went 350 yards in :17.724 while racing against a reported 7-mph head wind, posting a 96 speed index. Randy Smith prepped and Juan D. Marquez rode the 4-year-old Escondido Beach gelding for owners Keith Bode and Deborah A. Smith.
Beach Blast banked the $20,350 winner’s share of the purse, bringing his lifetime earnings to $345,415. Raced exclusively in Indiana, Beach Blast has won nine of 14 outs. His four stakes victories include last year’s 350-yard $94,942 Harley Greene Derby and 400-yard $137,700 Blue River Derby.
The sorrel gelding was bred by Sheri Miller, who stands Escondido Beach at her farm in Shipshewana, Indiana. He was purchased as a yearling by Bode and Brock Hutchinson at the 2019 Quarter Horse Racing Association of Indiana Speed Sale. Beach Blast is out of Jess Alive Bully, a Feature Mr Jess mare who won the 2005 Jaguar Rocket Stakes.
Stone Lake (Escondido Beach-Silly Chix), a 25-1 longshot, ran second under jockey Luz Martinez. He banked $7,400 for his owner Pattie Marshall and trainer Anthony Cunningham.
Rock Hard Candy (Escondido Beach-Jesses Candy) finished third and pocketed $3,700 for owners Lance and Tammy Finlinson. Trainer Randy Smith had German Rodriguez aboard the 5-year-old gelding.

Alive Bully) ran fourth and was followed by Jess Bringin It On (Jess Zoomin-Billie Bob), HH C J Shake (Escondido Beach-Shakem Jake), Up Town
J Ray (Escondido Beach-Shazilla), Beach Benny (Escondido Beach-Streaking Stitches), Falcon (El Diablo Tres-Southern Honeymoon), and Secret Eyes (Habits Secret-Eyes On Sara).

ne Slick V is slick indeed as he barely slipped
into the $100,000 Rainbow Invitational at Ruidoso Downs on July 23.
Ridden by Francisco Calderon, One Slick V quickly took command of the field when he broke from the 7-post. Despite a duel from A Tres Of Eagle, One Slick V held on to win by a neck.
Trained by Monty Arrossa, the gelding completed the 440 yards in :21.222 while posting a career best 97 speed index. The gelded son of One Valiant Hero also earned the first place check worth $42,000 and now has a total bankroll of $78,291 for owner Double Diamond Quarter Horses and now has a race record of four wins from 11 career starts.
Valeriano Racing bred One Slick V out of six-time winner Silk Mountain, who won the 2010 Ruidoso Distaff Challenge and Joe B. Turner Memorial. She has produced 10 winners from 16 starters, including stakes placed PYC U At The Mtn V and Silk Cartel.
Fastest qualifier A Tres Of Eagle (One Fabulous Eagle-A Tres Of Paint) has been running against the toughest in the business his whole life. Making a valiant effort, the gelding just missed in second under Ruben Castro for owner Bella Vista Farms LLC and trainer Eddie Willis. The La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC’s Famous Blueyed Kisses (One Famous Eagle-Dreaming Of Kisses) had the third fastest time in the trials and ran true to form in the finals. The Xavier Rodriguez trainee had Felipe Garcia-Luna in the irons.
Apolitical Eyeopener (Apollitical Jess-Mongoose
Jet Eye), San Lorenzo Tay (Ivory James-Shes Dashin First), HT Double Jess (Jess Good Candy-Jess Paint Your Lips), Just A Kool Boy (Favorite Cartel-Just Eagle), Misty Cracker (A Revenant-Misty Blue Mercedes), Favored One (Favorite Cartel-Indeed A Delight)
and Win In Doubt (Kiss My Hocks-Cascia Babe) completed the order of finish. Apollitical J Legacy and Political Thinker were scratched.

artel Kisses kissed the field goodbye in the
$100,000 Rainbow Juvenile at Ruidoso Downs on July 24.
Despite not getting away the best in fourth, Cartel Kisses and jockey Rodrigo Vallejo dueled throughout with leader Hooked N Gone. Cartel Kisses was in second at the top of the stretch and proved best with a neck winning margin at the wire.
Trained by M. Heath Taylor, the team completed the 400 yards in :19.535, while posting a 97 speed index. The $42,000 winner’s share boosted the gelding’s
lifetime earnings to $151,429 for owners Bobbie and Larry Rice. In addition to this stakes event, Cartel Kisses also won the Easy Jet Stakes earlier this year and was a finalist in the Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Futurity-RG1.
Flag Ranch LLC bred Cartel Kisses out of Black Gold 330 Futurity-RG3 winner Midnight Corona. She was also a finalist in the Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Derby-RG3 and Decketta Stakes-G3. The mare has produced four winners from five starters. Cartel Kisses is her first stakes winner.
Regina Laymon’s Hooked N Gone (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Pretty Girl Kate) hooked the front runners to finish second under Justine Klaiber for trainer Eddie D. Willis. The gelding won the April Remington Park Juvenile. Jeriko (One Famous Eagle- Signs Zoomer) finished third with a late but strong kick for owner Bobby D. Cox. The Juan Vazquez trainee had Bryan Candanosa handling the reins.
