Under jockey Ramon Sanchez, One Dashing Eagle (#5) lugged out badly in the 26th trial but still scored a neck victory to set the sixth-fastest qualifying time.
With Ramon Sanchez up, Aha Moment (#1) finished in a dead-heat with BP Cartels Alibi to win the 25th trial and qualify with the seventh-fastest time of :21.385.
Race Record: 4-3-1-0
One Dashing Eagle kept the All American Futurity trial excitement going until the very end, as the colt won the final trial of the day to clock in with the sixth-fastest qualifying time for the All American Futurity. The win was his third straight, following
on the heels of an impressive 1 1/4-length score at Los Alamitos in the Ed Burke Million Futurity-G1, where he also lugged out badly. Ramon Sanchez stepped aboard One Dashing Eagle for the first time in the
All American trials for trainer Jose De La Torre, who also co-owns the colt with his brother Gustavo De La Torre and Manuel Carmona’s San Gregorio Racing Stable. A $43,000 yearling purchase at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, One Dashing Eagle was bred by the famed Allred Bros. and is out of graded stakes winner One Sweet Dash. He is a half- brother to Grade 1 winner One Sweet Jess—who won the Golden State Million Futurity for the De La Torres family—and stakes winner Hes A Standout. One Sweet Dash is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner A Dash Of Beduino, Grade 3 winner and track record setter This Jet Is Royal, and stakes winners Posting The Colors and Fly With Honor.
Race Record: 4-2-1-1
Aha Moment had a promising debut at Los Alamitos, breaking his maiden in his first start, before moving to the moun- tains of Ruidoso, where he contested the trials to the Ruidoso and Rainbow futu- rities but failed to qualify on either occasion. A return
to the winner’s circle also brought the colt his first stakes ticket, as
he posted the co-seventh-fastest qualifying time to the All American Futurity after dead-heating to win the 25th trial. Aha Moment is
the only All American Futurity qualifier for his trainer, Paul Jones,
who won the race in 2009 with Runnning Brook Gal. Jockey Ramon Sanchez, who has handled Aha Moment in all four of his starts, also qualified One Dashing Eagle. A $29,000 Ruidoso Select Sale Yearling, Aha Moment is owned by Jimmy and Marilyn Harrel. He was bred by Joe Kirk Fulton, and is by the freshman sire No Secrets Here, who won the All American Futurity in 2006. Aha Moment is out of Grade 2 win- ner Thrill And Grace, who has four winners in as many starters. Aha Moment’s second dam is Dela Creme Smash, who also produced Grade 1 winner Victory Defined.
