Northern Plains Futurity
RAMBLIN V EIGHT

Ramblin V Eight notched her first stakes win in the $22,500 Northern Plains Futurity, which was held at Chippewa Downs in North Dakota on
June 24.
The bay filly’s victory came after Hasta Be Kwik
was disqualified and placed last for interference. Ramblin V Eight broke from the 2-post under
jockey Marcus Delorme. They stayed there in second place, on the heals of Hasta Be Kwick, throughout the contest and crossed the line 1/2-length behind the leader and 2-lengths in front of the next finisher.
Ramblin V Eight and Delorme completed the 350-yard Northern Plains Futurity in :19.310 over a muddy racecourse.
When Hasta Be Kwik was disqualified from first to last place for lugging out Ramblin V Eight was moved up and was declared the official race winner.
Ramblin V Eight brought home the $9,450 winner’s share of the purse for owner Bryton Dewald and trainer Cole Wilson, boosting her total lifetime earnings to $9,825.
The filly ran second in her June 9 trial o the Northern Plains Futurity, also to Hasta Be Kwik, which represented her maiden start.
Randal E. Schwartz bred Ramblin V Eight
out of lightly raced Two Thirty Eight. The 2008 mare has produced 100% money earners from her first three starters. Her brood includes winner First Heartbreak, who finished third in the 2016 version of the Northern Plains Futurity. Ramblin V Eight becomes the first stakes winner out of Two Thirty Eight as well as her top money earner.
All of the two-year-old competitors in the Northern Plains Futurity made their first official start in the trials.
Sucha Salty Val (Such Easy Cash-Miss Salty Val) and Jeramie Fennell finished the race in second place for owner John Bubel and trainer Terry Davis. The filly won her June 9 trials to this race.
Looks Like A Rambler (Ima Ramblin On-Pricey Looks) finished in third place under jockey Duane Salvino. The filly is owned and trained by Perry Cavanaugh. She finished third in her trial heat, behind Hasta Be Kwik and Ramblin V Eight.
Strawfly Style (Genuine Strawfly-Runaway
In Style) finished in fourth and was followed by Gamble On Toshky (Captain Toshky-Speed News), Such A Silk Dasher (Such Easy Cash-Southern Silk Coat) and Hasta Be Kwik (Hasta Be Fast-Crazy Kwik Chick), who was disqualified from first to seventh. Azoomin On was scratched.
NDQHRA Maturity
MR KING CARTEL

Mr King Cartel scored a stakes victory in the $15,000 North Dakota Quarter Horse Racing Association Maturity at Chippewa Downs on June
24.
Mr King Cartel, a 4-year-old bay gelding,
stepped away from the five-post on the lead. Jockey Jeramie Fennell rode hard for a few jumps, but soon saw no need for it.
The closer they got to the 350-yard finish line, the more they dominated the field. They completed the race 2-lengths in front of the rest to collect first place money. The race was hand timed.
Mr King Cartel brought home the $6,300 win- ner’s share of the purse for owner David Wisdom and trainer Billy Buchholz, boosting his total bankroll
to $19,179.
His race record stands at four wins and one second-place finish out of 10 races.
Mr King Cartel won his first race wire-to-wire by 4 1/2-lengths in the trials to the North Dakota Quarter Horse Racing Association Futurity in 2016. He went on to win in those finals wire-to-wire by 3-lengths.
He next won the 2018 NAHR Bonus Challenge at Brown County Fair, the race prior to his first stakes victory for 2018 in the NDQHRA Maturity.
Wisdom bred Mr King Cartel out of 2009 Central Hi-Point Three-Year-Old Filly Shake
Em Diva. She won the 2008 North Dakota Bred Futurity and the 2009 North Dakota Bred Derby and has $44,543 in earnings. The mare was also second in three additional stakes events and was a finalist in the Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity-G3.
Shake Em Diva has produced 100% money earners from five starters, with three of them being winners. Her top money earner is Mr Famous Eagle. Mr King Cartel is her first stakes winner.
Finishing in a dead-heat for second was Denim Dust (Winners Version-Two Eyes), who was ridden
by Duane Salvino for owner Jesse Morin and trainer Jim Fleming, and Jennas Easy Eagle (Such Easy Cash- Jennas Birthday) who was ridden by Cody Desjarlais for owner John Bubel and trainer Terry Davis. Denim Dust was a finalist in the NDQHRA Derby and the NDQHRA Futurity. Jennas Easy Eagle was a finalist in the 2017 NDQHRA Maturity.
Ramblin On In Style (Ima Ramblin On-Runaway In Style), Winning Script (Free Company-Winners Script) and Shakiri (Mr Special Colors-Champs First Dasher) completed the order of finish. Lots Of LaJolla was scratched.
Golden Driller Stakes
HOOKED ON A WIN

Hooked On A Win reeled in his first-ever stakes victory in the $16,850 Golden Driller Stakes at Fair Meadows on June 17.
Kenny Laymon trains Hooked On A Win, who had Daniel Torres aboard for the 350-yard trip. The gelding broke out of the 5-post and he grabbed the lead by a head at the first call. Hooked On A Win maintained that narrow advantage going into the stretch, then held on to win the race by a neck, completing the contest in :17.805 and logging an 89 speed index.
The gelding notched his fourth win in 10 career starts. This marked his second straight victory and third trip to the winner’s circle in a span of four starts as a three year old. The $10,338 payday for his breakthrough stakes victory boosted Hooked On A Win’s lifetime earnings over the $50,000 benchmark to $51,884 for owner Regina Laymon.
JK Running Horses LLC bred Hooked On A Win out of Pretty Girl Kate. Also owned by Regina Laymon, Pretty Girl Kate won the 2007 running of the Kansas Bred Derby and has produced 100% money earners from seven starters, including top money earner I Cant Help It, winner of the 2016 Fair Meadows Maturity. Hooked On A Win is her second stakes winner.
Ihaveallthecontrol (Jess Tambien-Nellie Blanc) and Gonzalo Gutierrez finished second for owner Anastacio Martinez and trainer Cristino Estrada-Regalado.
JC Wild Rose (Apollitical Jess-Oh Cherokee Rose) finished third under Jose Vega for owner Jose Cervantes and trainer Carlos Ruiz.
She Looks Racy (First Down Dash-Miss Racy Jess), Captain Trick (Captain Courage-Trickie Lassie), Bad Neighbor (Country Chicks Man-The Kooch), Corona Senator (Louisiana Senator-Fly Miss Corona) and VF Eyebaman (Pappasito-Eyebalady) completed the order of finish. Paint My Pilot was scratched.
