by Michael Cusortelli
Politically Corrupt scored his second graded stakes victory in the 440-yard Sam Houston Classic-G2 on May 13. Racing for Double H Racing
Investments, LLC and ridden by Cipriano Vidana, Politically Corrupt made his trip in :21.234 while posting a career-best 109 speed index. The $30,000 winner’s share of the $50,000 purse increased the 4-year-old gelding’s earnings to $181,945.
“These kinds of horses do everything on their own,” said Jose Sanchez, who trains Politically Corrupt. “He’s run big from the rail before, so we knew that wouldn’t be a problem.”
Politically Corrupt was bred by Andrew Gardiner and is one of six winners from seven starters pro- duced by stakes winner Adorable Deer. His second dam, Dashing Deer, was a finalist in the 1990 Remington Park Futurity-G2.
Campaigned in Texas and Louisiana, Politically Corrupt has won eight of 17 starts, including last year’s 400-yard Retama Park Derby-G3. The geld- ing’s resume includes a second-place finish in last year’s Dash For Cash Derby-G3 and a third in the Old South Derby.

Kearl also prepped third-place finisher RC Me Leaving You (Coronas Leaving You-Sixy Bottom). Noe Villatoro rode for owners Bennie and Terri Jeter.

CAT SCRATCH DASH
by Dillon Hamilton
Cat Scratch Dash fought a significant head wind and stiff competition for his fifth stakes victory in the $19,000 Colors of Texas Paint Maturity on
May 1.
The 5-year-old sorrel horse broke even from the
third post position and made quick work of overtak- ing the leaders under jockey Luciano Duenez. The pair dueled early and drew away in the stretch to reach the wire 1 1/2-lengths in front. They covered the 350- yard fast track in :17.961 to earn an 83 speed index.
Cat Scratch Dash brought home the $11,590 winner’s share of the purse to take his lifetime earn- ings of $69,711 for owner Melissa L. Dehoyos and trainer Josue Ponce.
Cat Scratch Dash, who was bred by Richard Joneson, is the only Paint out of 3-time winner Cat Scratch Fefurr. The mare has produced 100% money earners/ROM from her three Quarter Horse starters, including her top Quarter Horse earner Runnin Fefurr whose last win was in a July 3 Claiming race at Fair Meadows where he finished by an impres- sive 1 1/4-lengths in front. Cat Scratch Dash, her
top overall earner, was the 2016 APHA Champion Running Breeding Stock Aged Stallion.
Multiple stakes winner Tell Him Bye (Hiclass La Jolla QH-Dial Judy) finished second under Noe Villatoro for owner Sandra Garnett-Tatom and trainer Rubio Esteban.
El Pecoso (Mr Streakaway QH-La Pecosa) finished third under jockey Alejandro Medina for owner Erik Martinez and trainer Yoni Martinez.

a stakes victory in the $20,000 Colors of Houston Paint Juvenile at Sam Houston Race Park
on May 1.
The bay Tovero filly broke her maiden in suc-
cessful fashion starting in the fourth post position. She broke sixth from the gate, but quickly found her footing and gained the lead in the stretch under jockey Luciano Duenez.

Kiowas Success captured the $11,000 winner’s share of the purse that amounts to her lifetime total for owner Jacob Rios and trainer J. Boegner, Jr. but this early winning trend looks promising for her.
Royena Clifton bred Kiowas Success out of unraced Miss Dashin Image. She has produced 100% money earners from four starters. Kiowas Success is her top earner and first stakes winner.
Once A Warrior (Agouti QH-Omega Bull) was bumped but finished a game second under jockey Gonzalo Gutierrez for owner Jodee A. Rowe and trainer Juan J. Gomez.
