IM MIGHTY FAST
by Danny Camp
There were only five horses lined up for the 870- yard Races and Aces Stakes at Evangeline Downs on Nov. 5.
There was $30,000 to be split up among the hopefuls and it was Im Mighty Fast pocketing the biggest share. The bay gelding broke fourth from the outside 5-gate and reached second at the first call. Around the turn he was a comfortable second, 1/2-length behind B And G Fast Dash under rider Luis Guerrero. Im Mighty Fast found another gear late and crossed the wire a head in front. The geld- ing stopped the clock at :46.056 to earn a 93 speed index. He also earned the $18,000 first place money for owner Triple C Racing Stables, LLC and trainer Guadalupe Tristan. Im Mighty Fast boosted his total lifetime earnings to $65,730 with the win. He was coming off a win in an optional claiming race at Evangeline Downs on Oct. 20
Im Mighty Fast was bred in Louisiana by Brent Cody Leblanc out of unraced Sheza Fast Doll. She has produced three money earners from four starters that have tallied eight wins, including 2-time winner Cosino Doll. Im Mighty Fast is her top earner and first stakes winner.
B And G Fast Dash (Heza Fast Dash-Rita Regent) finished second under Donald Watson.
The gelding collected second place money for owner Mo Racing and trainer Kenneth Roberts, Sr. The gelding won his last three outs in a row including the Faubourg St. John Stakes and the Live Oak Stakes.
MCM On Thin Ice (Heza Fast Dash-Icy Lane TB) took a wide turn but was able to hold on for third place. Her team includes owner MCM Farm, LLC and trainer Michael Taylor. Donell Blake was handling the reins. The filly won her last two outs in a row.
Sir Lucky Strike (Strong Hope-Jaguar Princess TB) finished fourth followed by I Make Em Jump (Jumpn-EJS Royal Charger).
Sport of Speed Sale Futurity
POUTN ON THE WAGON
by John Moorehouse
Make it six starts, and six wins, for Poutn On The Wagon, who triumphed in the $31,813 Sport of Speed Sale Futurity at Lethbridge on Oct. 15.
William Leech trains Poutn On The Wagon, who made a solid break from the 6-gate and was run- ning a close second behind Dashin By All at the first call. He quickly surpassed his opponent, sporting a 1/2-length lead as he entered the stretch and won the race by that same margin.
Ricardo Moreno was in the irons as Poutn On The Wagon covered the 350 yards in :17.659, registering a 105 speed index. It marked the third triple-digit index for the gelding, whose debut season also has included wins in the Alberta Bred Futurity-RG3, where he set
a new 300-yard track record, and the Canada Cup Futurity-RG3, both at Lethbridge. Home-bred by Pete Schoeler, Poutn On The Wagon now holds three stakes victories, and the gelding’s career bankroll swelled to $60,371 with the addition of this $14,316 payday.
Schoeler also owns graded stakes winner Poutnlori, the dam of Poutn On The Wagon who, as a broodmare, now has seen each of the starters she has foaled win multiple stakes races. Other successful off- spring in black type include New Track Record setter Poutnokey and Poutn With Speed, both half-brothers to Poutn On The Wagon. Poutnokey is her top earner.
Dashin By All (Bodacious Dash-All Lena) finished a game second for owner Thomas Pick and trainer Tom Kenway. Martin Ortiz did the riding. Ivory Lady League (Ivory League-Rocky Mountain Lady) placed third. Kevin Oberholtzer trains the filly and co-owns her with Paige Oberholtzer. Neville Stephenson was aboard. The remaining
order of finish was Munckin (Special Fly Bye-Cleats Rockette), Eye On Desirio (Desirio-Dash N Way), Reds On Fire (Sizzlin Red Corona-Queens Strawfly), Arrow Of Time (Eye Take Time-Teller Reba) and Stupendous 109 (Azoom-Shawnee Royale).
All Canadian Derby
SHES GOTTA REASON
by John Moorehouse
Shes Gotta Reason only had been to the win- ner’s circle once previously, but picked a fine time to score a victory with her 1/2-length win in the $24,174 All Canadian Derby on Oct. 16 at Lethbridge.
A Laurie Ferguson trainee, Shes Gotta Reason got away from the 8-gate well and was running
a close second at the first call, then overtook Go Jessin Beaver to build a 1-length lead by the time she entered the stretch.
That was enough separation to secure the victory for the filly, who completed the 400-yard out in :20.028. She posted a 97 speed index under rider Neville Stephenson.
Shes Gotta Reason was the second fastest quali- fier from the Oct. 1 trials. She captured a $10,879 payday for owners Mike and Kathy McNiven with the stakes victory, which increased her total earnings to $20,858.
Shes Gotta Reason was bred in Oklahoma by Vaughn and Jill Cook and is out of graded stakes winner Mia Jones. The mare has produced 100% earners from nine starters, including stakes placed Awise Hero and her top earner Grade 1 finalist Mia Kine. Shes Gotta Reason is her first stakes winner.
Go Jessin Beaver (Apollitical Jess-Corona Del Valle) secured runner-up honors for owners Charlie Weaselhead and Jim Plume. The William Leech trainee had Ricardo Moreno aboard. ER Cafe (Tres Seis-Hawks Halo), the pre-race favorite and fastest qualifier, took third. Donalda Cochrane owns and trains the colt, who was ridden by Ramiro Castillo.
Followed by Royal Red Corona (Sizzlin Red Corona-Royal Knockout), Fly Bye Cruise (Special Fly Bye-Eye Cruise), Seperate Jess (One Sweet Jess- Quota), DQ’d from 4th to 7th Gone Fast (Meter Me Lucky-Beautiful Ashlee), and HRH Tres Royale (Tres Seis-Trippys Royal Dash).
