AQRA Futurity
ARIZONA ICON
by Dillon Hamilton
Fastest qualifier Arizona Icon proved why he was favored in the $28,737 AQRA Futurity at Turf Paradise on Oct. 30.
The 2-year-old bay gelding commanded the lead from the 2-gate. After posting a strong trial time, it was no surprise that he drove out to an early 1/2-length lead and held well under jockey Vince Guerra. Frozen Icon challenged the young winner, but Arizona Icon reigned in his first stakes win
in two rookie season attempts. Arizona Icon and Guerra held the lead from wire-to-wire for the 350 yards, recording a time of :17.966 and earning an 87 speed index. Arizona Icon won his Oct. 16 trial heat by 3/4-length, posting the fastest qualifying time to the finals. The gelding’s earnings reached $17,135 after claiming the $14,388 winner’s share of the purse for owner Las Vegas Ranch and trainer Matthew Fales.
Las Vegas Ranch bred Arizona Icon out of stakes placed winner Jess Perfect Girl. She has produced 100% money earners from five starters, including 2-time stakes winner/top earner Jess Perfect Corona and 3-time W/SW Hi-Point Distance Horse/W/ SW Hi-Point Claiming Horse Jess Perfect Miracle. Arizona Icon is her second stakes winner.
Frozen Icon (Texas Icon-Icebreaker) finished sec- ond under under Jorge Bourdieu for owner Martha F. Wells and trainer Matthew Fales. Sniper 1 (The Bounty Man-Secret High) finished third under Jesus Osuna. The chestnut gelding held show for owner Juan G. Sepulveda and trainer Heraclio Botello.

LA CHINA MALUCA
by Dillon Hamilton
La China Maluca found her first stakes victory in her sophomore season in the $26,362 Desert Classic Derby at Turf Paradise on Oct. 30.
After running the second fastest trial time of the final field, the 3-year-old gray filly couldn’t be con- sidered a surprise winner. She started from the 8th post position under jockey Eswan Flores and left the gate in third. The pair quickly attained a 1/2-length lead and held off all contenders. They covered the 350-yard track with a time of :17.814, earning a 92 speed index.
The filly’s earnings jumped to $16,781 after claiming the winner’s share of $13,181. The filly’s results have steadily improved under training from Mario J. Loza for owner Ugo De La Torre. La China Maluca finished second in her Oct. 16 Desert Classic Derby trial heat to fastest qualifier One Sweet Bullet.
Breeders Jose and Gustavo De La Torre bred the filly out of Priscilla Ione in California. She has produced 100% money earners from eight starters, including stakes placed N.W. Hi-Point 3-Year- Old Filly Dippin In The Cash and Grade 1 stakes winner/top earner Deniro. La China Maluca is her second stakes winner.

All American Congress Futurity
AMERICAN HUSTLER
by Tracy Gantz
American Hustler was one of only two horses making their first lifetime start in the All American Congress Futurity at Belterra Park on Oct. 9. What he lacked in experience, however, he made up in talent to come home a winner.
Piloted by Samuel Bermudez for trainer J.G. Arevalo and owner Miguel Medrano, American Hustler stumbled at the start but quickly recovered and received the first call from the gates. He led throughout the 350 yards, and was 2 1/2-lengths ahead in the stretch. American Hustler’s winning margin of victory ended up being 3/4-length, as he stopped the timer in :17.906 for the wire-to-wire win.
Reliance Ranches, LLC bred American Hustler in Oklahoma. Lazy E Ranch LLC, agent for Reliance, consigned him to the 2015 Heritage Place Yearling Sale, where he sold for $7,000 to Amanda Tongay of Indiana.
American Hustler is the first stakes winner out of Make Us Proud, who won three races and has produced 100% money earners from 10 starters. She is out of Champion Special Phoebe, whose foals also include stakes winner A Special Sno Flo and stakes- placed Special Phoenix.
The favored entry of One Fast Effort (One Famous Eagle-Tiny First Effort) and First Down Money Pop (First Down Dash-Gotta Money Pop) finished a neck apart in second and third after One Fast Effort flipped in the gate. Anthony Cunningham trains both for Pattie Marshall. Cesar Esqueda rode One Fast Effort, and Harold Collins piloted First Down Money Pop. Both horses broke their maidens in their most recent races. Followed by Seperate Feature (Inseperable-Moon Kissed Perry), Definitely Carter (Carters Cartel-Fames Qtpi), CC Cool Cash (Executive Menace-Pepper Storm-TB), First Down A Corona (My Corona Is Rare-Gram
One), and Rare Achievement (My Corona Is Rare-Our Achievement). Atemptingsplash was scratched.
