all american Congress Derby
SeISwho
by John Moorehouse
Seiswho is starting to hit his stride, as Walter Harrison’s homebred 3-year-old gelding made
a driving finish to win the $24,746 All American Derby on Oct. 27 at Beulah Park. This marked the second win for Seiswho in 12 lifetime outs, and his first in stakes company.
Drawing the outside gate in the nine-horse field, Seiswho veered out at the break. Jockey Richard Rettele got Seiswho back on track, however, and the gelding made a huge rally to surge into the lead and reach the wire first by a neck
Trained by Carol Rettele, Seiswho covered the 440 yards in :22.162. He banked $11,135 to take his career bankroll to a new total of $21,961.
Harrison also bred Precious Debutante, the dam of Seiswho. The 1997 mare posted eight wins in
her racing career, which included a 2-2-2 showing in stakes company. Eight of her nine offspring have made starts, and five are now stakes winners. Casey Corona, a 2-year-old, won the All American Congress Futurity on this same Beulah Park card to log his second stakes triumph. Her other stakes winners include Ida Snow Man, Mr Corona To You and Fearles Fred, the latter the most decorated with nine stakes wins—four graded—and more than $250,000 in earnings. after finishing second in last year’s All American Congress Maturity, Bright Eyed Vision had
no equal in his repeat performance on Oct. 27. The 6-year-old gelding prevailed in a blanket finish in the $23,300 event at Beulah Park, collecting his 12th win in 45 outs and second in stakes company.
Also the winner of the 2008 Kansas Jackpot Futurity-RG2, Bright Eyed Vision holds three runner- up finishes in stakes, including the 2011 All American Congress Maturity, and one third-place performance in the 2012 Indiana Downs Classic Stakes.
This time in the Congress Maturity, he made
a solid break from the four gate underneath jockey Gabriel Lagunes and grabbed the lead by the first call. Bright Eyed Vision led by a full length in mid- stretch, then held off strong challenges from Joltin Jess and Shamu Moon. All three horses hit the wire together, and a review of the photo indicated Bright Eyed Vision got there first by a nose.
Owned by Faustino Bueno Sr. and trained by Efrain Bueno, Bright Eyed Vision completed the 440 yards in :21.867 for a 95 speed index on a muddy track. The gelding also secured an $11,883 payday which improved his lifetime bankroll to $182,625.
Lauren George bred Bright Eyed Vision out of Hope For Me. The lightly-raced 1996 mare has three offspring and, while all are starters, Bright Eyed Vision is the only winner.
