COUNTRY BOY 123
by John Moorehouse
Country Boy 123 has been on a roll in 2016, and it continued as he won the $82,188 Alex Picov Derby by daylight at Ajax Downs on Sept. 19.
After setting the top qualifying time in the derby trials on Sept. 4, Country Boy 123 was even faster in the stakes final, finishing in :19.660. The gelding got away from the 9-gate and led by a nose at the first call, maintaining that slim margin going into the stretch. Jockey Cory Spataro urged a final burst from the geld- ing, who pulled away to win by 1 1/4-lengths and reg- istered a career-high 107 speed index. Bryn Robertson trains Country Boy 123 for owner Ruth Barbour.
Country Boy 123 collected a $30,605 payday, which improved his total earnings to $68,796.
It marked the third straight victory for Country Boy 123, a streak that included a victory in the Adequan Ajax Derby Challenge. The gelding now holds six wins in seven starts thus far as a sophomore.
Carolyn Bay bred both Country Boy 123 and her dam, Very Dashin 123, a mare who also holds a stakes win—taking the 2008 Texas Distaff Challenge-G3 at Sam Houston. She has produced 100% money earners from four starters. Country Boy 123 is her only foal in black type.
Countrys Comin Bac (Country Chicks Man-Bac To Center) took second under Tony Phillips for Ralph Pearson, who does double duty as owner and trainer. Panther Hero (Valiant Hero-Rona Mountain) placed third for owner John S. Wilson and trainer Scott Reid. Cassandra Jeschke was aboard.
Sugarmans Delight (Sugarman Perry-Wonders Delight), Speedocracy (Its All About Speed- Hotdoggin Baby Doll), Seis Zoom (Tres Seis- Eazoom), Do U Zoom (Jess Zoomin-Doing Some Winning), Ice Fishin (Iced N Oak-Fisher Lines), Memory Of Jay (Jesse James Jr-Is It Memorex) and Valiant Stoli Time (Valiant Hero-Its Stoli Time) completed the field.

FAST MAN VIC
by Dillon Hamilton
Fast Man Vic claimed his fifth win of the year with a wire-to-wire victory in the $42,519 Bank of America Ajax Downs Championship Challenge at
on Aug. 21.
Breaking on top from the 3-post, the 4-year-
old bay gelding stretched his legs over 440 yards to maintain a nose advantage for most of the race, but opened his lead to 1 1/4-lengths at the finish for a wire-to-wire victory.
Jockey Shanley Jackson and Fast Man Vic bested the field and covered the distance in :22.070, earn- ing a speed index of 92.
The win bumped Fast Man Vic’s earnings to $168,493. Greg Watson conditioned the gelding for owners Full Circle Racing in Ontario, Canada.
Dick Harrison bred Fast Man Vic in Texas out of multiple stakes winner Precious Debutante. She has produced 100% money earners from 10 performing starters with six stakes winners, including Central Hi-Point 3-Year-Old Gelding/top money earner Fearles Fred.
One Famous Glass (One Famous Eagle-Quick Glass) finished second under Tony Phillips after
a bumped start. The 6-year-old sorrel gelding
found his legs late with a surge to the wire to finish 1-length ahead of third. Bryn Robertson trained the gelding for owners Carol and Jaime Robertson.
Fantsy Pants (Splash Bac-Corona Deluxe) finished third under Chelsey Willick. The 4-year-old filly started well only to close too late on the leaders. Michelle Woodley trained the filly for owner Lucas Racing, Inc.
Jesskissmytexas (Mr Jess Tex-Strawfly Fortune) and The FDD Map (FDD Dynasty-On The Map) finished in a dead heat for fourth, followed by Rockin Miss Kitty (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Check Cathy) and Dee Dees Winner (Winners Award-Dee Dees Dimples).
All Canadian Classic Maturity
FIRST DOWN THE TRACK
by John Moorehouse
First Down The Track added another stakes win to her record in the $33,593 All Canadian Classic Maturity at Ajax Downs on Sept. 12.
Trained by Don Reid, First Down The Track broke fourth from the outside gate in the seven-horse field, was running fifth at the first call and third going into the stretch. She was easily the strongest late, hitting the wire first by 1-length. Brian Bell drew the riding assignment and finished the 350- yard race in :17.580, posting a 101 speed index.
This marked the fourth career stakes victory for the six-year-old mare. This $13,567 payday pushed her total earnings to $245,234. Richard Wincikaby and the DK Training Centre own First Down The Track, who has recorded all of her stakes wins at Ajax— including the 2012 Princess Stakes F., the 2013 Maple Leaf D. and the Picov Maturity earlier this year.
Lance Robinson and Max Anderson bred First Down The Track out of First Down Runner. The mare also holds black type, winning the 2005 Southern California D.-G1. As a broodmare, First Down Runner has produced 14 starters among 19 offspring. Canada Hi-Pt 3-Year-Old Filly First Down The Track is the only stakes winner in the brood and her top money earner.
One Famous Glass (One Famous Eagle-Quick Glass) finished second under Tony Phillips for owners Carol Robertson, Jaime Robertson and Dr. Charles Hall and trainer Bryn Robertson.
Richard Kennedy owns and trains third place finisher Fiesty Icon (Sugarman Perry-Fiesty Spirit), who had Carly Furlonger up.
