HEZA DASHA FIRE

Odds-on favorite Heza Dasha Fire ran away with the $100,000 Go Man Go Handicap-G1 for 3-year-olds and up at Los Alamitos on Sept. 4.
The 4-year-old sorrel gelding left no doubt as
to why he was picked as the favorite. He built a 2-length lead early from the 9-gate and held that margin with ease for the dominant wire-to-wire win.
Jockey Cruz Mendez and Heza Dasha Fire have created a winning habit at Los Alamitos. This win marks their fifth stakes race and fourth Grade 1 victory at the track, including Los Alamitos Super Derby-G1 and Champion of Champions-G1 wins. The pair covered the 400-yard track in an impressive :19.364 earning a speed index of 102 in this race.
Heza Dasha Fire’s earnings jumped to $1,761,487 after bagging the $47,000 winner’s purse for owner S-Quarter K, LLC and trainer Jose Flores.
S-Quarter K, LLC also bred the gelding out of Dam of Distinction Dasha Freda in Washington. The 2005 California Derby Challenge-G3 winner has produced 100% money earners from six starters, including Champion Ima Fearless Hero and World Champion/3-Time Champion/top money earner Heza Dasha Fire.
BH Lisas Boy (Mighty Invictus-Apollo Snowbound) bested the rest of the field under Ramon Sanchez. The 4-year-old sorrel gelding’s con- nections include owner/trainer Bill C. Hoburg.
Viento Negro (First Moonflash-Coup Of Corona) gave a consistent and steady effort to finish third under Cesar DeAlba for owner Celina Molina and trainer Juan G. Aleman.
Forget It (Foose-Forgive Him) finished fourth fol- lowed by Walk The Cat (Walk Thru Fire-Alley Cat Cartel), Fiery Kimbo (Walk Thru Fire-Kimbo With Class), Closing Time (TR Dasher-Singles Scene), Dutcher (Apollitical Jess-Louisiana Eye Opener) and Dr Jess (Mr Jess Perry-Eye For Corona).
Mildred Vessels Memorial H.-G1
SASS ME BLUE

After four stakes placings, three in Grade 1 races, Sass Me Blue picked an excellent spot for her first stakes victory. She defeated a field that included the talented Quirky to win the Mildred N. Vessels Memorial Handicap-G1 at Los Alamitos on Sept. 25.
Sass Me Blue broke third, quickly moving up under jockey Cody Jensen to vie with Jess Good Reason. Those two battled for most of the 400 yards. Sass Me Blue proved best, winning by a head in :19.811.
The race earned Sass Me Blue, who is trained
by Mike Casselman, a berth in the Champion of Champions-G1 on Dec. 10. Russell and Lisa Stooks’ Lucky Seven Ranch, which owns Sass Me Blue, owned and bred 2007 Champion of Champions win- ner Blues Girl Too.
Lance Robinson and Max Anderson bred Sass Me Blue in Utah from multiple graded stakes-placed Jess Sass Me. The mare has produced 100% money earners from 20 starters, including stakes winners Jess Being Valiant, Valiant Jess, and Champion Jess Walking Thru and stakes-placed Jess Sass Dash.
Paul Jones trained Jess Good Reason (Good Reason SA-Jess Call Me Tieing), who finished second with Oscar Peinado aboard. Cina and John Sperry own the 3-year-old filly, who won the La Primera Del Ano Derby-G3.
Dennie and Kris Hill’s homebred Apolitical Zoom (Apollitical Jess-K D Zoom), winner of the Wild Honey Handicap, ran third. Cesar DeAlba rode the 4-year-old filly for trainer Bret Vickery.
Completing the field were Quirky (Stel Corona- Dont Pass Bar), Take A Look (Separatist—Look Her Over), Nymph (Foose-Elans Last), Jess Cuz (Mr
Jess Perry-Corona Couture), Bac In Front (Foose- Running Bac), Tallulah Moon (Corona Cartel- Splendifferous), and Political Chick (Apollitical Jess-Fearless Chick).

TIME FOR JESS

Six days after Maggie Durant earned a berth
on Bank of America Racing Challenge Night, her stablemate Time For Jess added one for herself by winning the Adequan Los Alamitos Derby Championship Challenge.
Breaking alertly from post eight, Time For Jess dueled with El Compa JV early. Carlos Huerta piloted the filly, who dominated in the final 100 yards to win by 1-length in :19.763 for the 400 yards. The $20,782 winner’s share of the purse boosted the filly’s earnings to $144,809.
Kelly Spackman and his son, K.C., race Time For Jess, who is trained by Lin Melton, in the name of Spackman Racing. Time For Jess also ran second in this year’s Miss Princess Handicap.
J. Garvan Kelly and Nancy Yearsley bred Time For Jess in Idaho. Time For Jess is out of winner/ Grade 3 finalist Coronation Time, who has produced 100% money earners from six starters, including stakes-placed Morgan Gale and Toms Big Time Girl.
Rancho El Alacran Inc.’s homebred El Compa JV (Mr Jess Perry-My Lady First) ran second. Adriana Aceves trains the colt and her husband, Rodrigo, rode the colt. El Compa JV finished third in last year’s Los Alamitos $2 Million Juvenile.
Jess Good Reason (Good Reason SA-Jess Call Me Tieing) finished third. Carlos Marquez rode the filly for trainer Paul Jones and owners Cina and John Sperry. Earlier this year, Jess Good Reason scored in the La Primera Del Ano Derby-G3.
Completing the field were Little Talks (Favorite Cartel-Babe On The Fly), Timely Delivery (Volcom- One Prompt Chick), She Snows Shes Ivory (Ivory James-Sheza Snow Jewel), My Favorite Check (Favorite Cartel-Six Checks), First Prize Luke (Carters Cartel-First Prize Joy), Volcoms Seperator (Volcom-Megas Way), and Fames Jess Sweet (One Sweet Jess-Go For Fame).
