                                Golden State Juvenile
APOLLITICAL DYNASTY
by Tracy Gantz
When Brazilian Dasher died two years ago, breeders Bruce and Jill Thompson were heart- broken. But the mare continues to reward them with her offspring, most by Apollitical Jess on a embryo- sharing arrangement with Juan Tirado’s Rancho el Cabresto Inc., which owns the stallion.
Tirado got Apollitical Blood, winner of this year’s All American Derby-G1, with the Thompsons as breeders of the now-famous colt. The Thompsons got Apollitical Dynasty, the year-younger full brother, who won the Nov. 1 Golden State Juvenile at Los Alamitos.
Juan Aleman trains both brothers. He and the Thompsons decided to geld Apollitical Dynasty after the Ed Burke Futurity-G1 trials in June because “he just didn’t have his focus,” said Bruce Thompson.
Apollical Dynasty focused beautifully in the Juvenile, breaking sharply in second under Eduardo Nicasio. He took the lead about midway through the 400 yards and won easily by 1/2-length in :19.900. That brought his record to two wins, a second, and a third in five starts.
Brazilian Dasher has produced four winners from six starters, including stakes winner Apollitical Legacy. The mare is a half-sister to Champion FDD Dynasty.
Trixsey Sue (FDD Dynasty-Gotta Corona Habit) and jockey Roberto Hernandez outfinished Ivys Storm (Red Storm Cat-Whats Jody) and jockey Cruz Mendez by a neck for second. Charles Treece trains allowance winner Trixsey Sue for owner Stanley Watkins. Ivys Storm placed third by 3/4-length and is owned by Jorge Moya and trained by Jose Flores.
Completing the field were Chicks Fayvorite (Favorite Cartel-Chicks Tell), Daring N Different (Valiant Hero-Daring Diversion), Thrice Wise (Tres Seis-Another Wise Lady), Highclere (Foose-Handgun Creek), Misleader (Stel Corona-Fool The Boys), and Peacefull Delight (Tres Seis-Be Peacefull).
Luva Secret Handicap
SKINNY JEANS
by Tracy Gantz
The late Spencer Childers was such an influen- tial breeder in California Quarter Horse racing bloodlines that it isn’t surprising that the Oct. 16 Luva Secret Handicap at Los Alamitos paid tribute to him in many ways. Childers raced Luva Secret, and the winner, Skinny Jeans, is out of a mare that Childers bred.
Jostled at the start, Skinny Jeans got away just a step slowly in second from the rail. She and jockey Eduardo Nicasio quickly took a clear lead, and she kept her momentum going so that she could hold off several closers. Skinny Jeans won by a nose in :16.902 for the 330 yards.
Patricia Visscher trains Skinny Jeans for owner Nancy Scane, whose husband, Fred, bred the filly in California. Skinny Jeans was a good allowance win- ner last year, and this year she placed in four stakes before winning the Luva Secret.
Fred Scane bred Skinny Jeans from the winning Childers-bred mare Sables Sixty Six, a daughter of multiple stakes winner Sables Secret. Sables Sixty Six has produced two starters and winners, including stakes-placed Ima Foose.
Dr. Ed Allred’s homebred Blabber (Kiddy Up-Thinking Out Loud), winner of the 2015 California Breeders Debutante Stakes, finished sec- ond with Carlos Huerta aboard. Scott Willoughby trains the filly.
Double Bar S Ranch LLC’s homebred Jess Cuz (Mr Jess Perry-Corona Couture) ran third. Alejandro Luna rode the filly for trainer Elena Andrade. Jess Cuz was coming off back-to-back seconds in the Golden State Derby-G2 and Mildred N. Vessels Memorial Handicap-G1.
Followed by Political Chick (Apollitical Jess-Fearless Chick), The Perfect Love (Hawkish-Red Hot First Love), Smile N Wave (Corona Cartel-Runaway Wave) & Valiant Energy (Valiant Hero-Terrific Energy).
John Ward Handicap
WILMAS ALRIGHT NOW
by Tracy Gantz
John Erickson and his three sons are ropers, and he started buying racehorses because he wanted to improve the speed of their roping horses. That led to Wilmas Alright Now’s victory in the Oct. 23 John Ward Handicap at Los Alamitos.
With Cruz Mendez in the irons, Wilmas Alright Now broke sharply in the 400-yard John Ward Handicap. The Midnite Caller on the rail and Gallant Mystic on the outside tried to challenge,
but Wilmas Alright Now rebuffed them early. The 4-year-old gelding won easily by 1/2-length in :19.951.
Bret Vickery trains Wilmas Alright Now at Los Alamitos for Erickson, and the gelding was coming off a second place finish in the Blane Schvaneveldt Handicap. He also won the 2014 Hadtobenuts Derby at Sandy Downs.
Erickson noted that, though he bred Wilmas Alright Now in Idaho, the runner has California ties, since both his sire and dam came out of a Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association sale. Unraced Wilma The Wizard, the dam of Wilmas Alright Now, has produced four winners in six start- ers. Im Alright Now, Wilmas Alright Now’s sire, was graded stakes-placed.
Adriana Aceves owns and trains The Midnite Caller (A Regal Choice-Cee The Blurr), who fin- ished second. Rodrigo Aceves piloted the 5-year-old gelding, an $8,000 claim two starts back.
Jere Brinkerhoff trains and co-owns third-placed Gallant Mystic (Separatist-The Creole Queen) with Jesus Canales. J.J. Canales rode the 7-year-old geld- ing, winner of the Kip Didericksen Handicap in his last race.
Margaritas N Coronas (Corona Czech-Fly Margarita) was fourth, followed by Zoomin For Kash (Winners Version-A Crimson Zoom) & Molen Road (Rebs Go Gray-Plan A Fiesta). Balata Joe Now was scratched.
