POLLITICAL BLOOD
by Michael Compton
Despite being the 10th-fastest qualifier from the April 7 trials to the John Deere Juvenile Challenge finals at Turf Paradise, Apollitical Blood
proved best in the $40,205 main event on April 28 for owner Juan Clark and trainer Havid Canez.
Ridden by Jesus Virgen, Pollitical Blood raced in fourth position early in the 350-yard dash. The geld- ing hit his best stride in the lane, collaring Dynasty Dinamo in the final strides to score by a neck. Springing a 54-1 upset, Pollitical Blood covered the distance in :18.267 for an 80 speed index.
Pollitical Blood was making just his second career start, having finished sixth in his trial debut. He brought home the $18,494 winner’s share of the purse for his owner and boosted his total lifetime earnings to $18,524.
B & G Group Investments Inc. bred Pollitical Blood out of lightly raced Rita Regent. She has produced seven winners from 11 starters, including Champion B And G Fast Dash. Pollitical Blood is her third stakes winner. Clark acquired Pollitical Blood for $8,200 at the 2018 LQHBA Yearling Sale.
Dynasty Dinamo (FDD Dynasty-Witchs Streak), piloted by Emilio Tapia, led throughout and was caught at the wire, finishing second for owner Ricardo Ramirez and trainer Rigoberto Guillen.
The Ricardo Ramirez and Rigoberto Guillen owner/trainer combo also finished third with Jessapolitical Guy (Apollitical Jess-Famous Corona Lady) and jockey Raul Ramirez Jr., gaining ground late to nab the show spot.

AQRA President’s Spring D.
UNRESTRAINED
by John Moorehouse
Unrestrained is showing a sophomore win streak so far in 2019.
The three-year-old gelding improved to 3 wins
in as many starts this year, and posted his first-ever win in stakes company, taking the $36,575 AQRA President’s Open Spring Derby by 1/2-length on April 14 at Turf Paradise.
The fastest qualifier from the March 31 trials, Unrestrained entered this race as the post-time favor- ite and lived up to those expectations. The gelding broke well from the 4-gate, was a close second at the first call, then moved into the lead by a head in the stretch. Under jockey Jake Samuels, he widened the gap from there, finishing the 350 yards in :17.673 and posting a 97 speed index. He was a tick faster in qualifying, covering the same distance in :17.546.
For his career, Unrestrained now has five wins in nine starts, including four in a row, a streak dating back to a claiming event last Dec. at Los Alamitos. The $18,288 payday from this race improved his total earnings to $40,629.
Cristina Salas owns Unrestrained, a Jesus Olivas trainee. The gelding’s dam is Thinking Out Loud. Edward C. Allred bred both Unrestrained and Thinking Out Loud.
