Bradford Stakes
WOOP DEE DOO
by Michael Compton
Woop Dee Doo has an affinity for the racing surface at Indiana Grand. He proved that once again on July 7, scoring his second stakes win at the track in the $38,600 Bradford Stakes to remain perfect in both of his starts this season.
Woop Dee Doo and jockey Sergio Ramirez broke sharply and on the lead in the 400-yard test and despite bumping early, dueled for the lead from the start. The 5-year-old sorrel gelding battled Encore and jockey Gerardo Garrido through the lane, driving past with authority. Woop Dee Doo hit the wire 1 1/2-lengths clear to score in :19.885. The final clocking earned a 91 speed index.
Owned and trained by Ricardo Martinez, Woop Dee Doo improved his record to 20-8(2)-6(4)-4(1) and the $22,000 winner’s share of the purse padded his bankroll to $243,289. The multiple graded stakes-placed Woop Dee Doo also owns a win in the 2015 Heartland Futurity at Indiana Grand.
“Last year he battled sickness and didn’t really race very well for us, but he seems to have bounced back,” said Martinez. “He’s a very sound horse.”
Bred in California by John Andreini and Vince Genco, Woop Dee Doo is produced from the 2-time winner Jess Racy Eyes. The gelding is a half-brother to stakes winner Fetching Beauty and stakes-placed runners Bolt Lightly and Get There.
