IQHA Idaho Cup Derby
DASHAIR SPECIAL

Continuing an undefeated sophomore campaign, Dashair Special added his first stakes victory to his career record, winning the $18,072 IQHA Idaho
Cup Derby at Sandy Downs on July 20. Home-bred by Larry Chapple, Dashair Special
improved to 4-0 thus far in 2018. The three-year-old gelding already earned black type after finishing third in last year’s Hawthorne Futurity Division 2, but his breakthrough stakes win produced a $7,228 payday that increased his total earnings to $22,880.
A Mark Hanson trainee, Dashair Special topped the qualifying ladder for the Idaho Cup Derby, completing his 400-yard trip wire-to-wire on July 4 in :19.435. Emerging from the 9-post in rhe finals, Dashair Special was in the middle of the pack at the first call and was running a close second entering the stretch. Under rider Jesus Canales, the gelding made a late surge, overtaking JT Easy Bug to hit the wire first by a neck. The stakes-winning run took :19.668, generating a 98 speed index.
Chapple bred Dashair Special out of 2011 Idaho Cup Derby winner Special Truth. The mare was also third in the 2011 Eastern Idaho Distaff Challenge. Dashair Special is her first stakes winner and top money earner.
Glen Jamison trains runner-up JT Easy Bug (Jess Got Easier-Miss Perry Bugerry) and co-owns the geld- ing with Jill Jamison. Dallas Erickson was aboard.
Lucken Bach (Favorite Cartel-Shez Changing Ways) finished third under Raymundo Torres for own- ers Bob and Scott Giltner, who also trains the gelding.
Lil Red Wave (Hadtobenuts-Rare Wave), Super Starr (Hadtobenuts-All Star Elite), Hesa Beast (Hadtobenuts-Shergars Revenge TB), One Sweet Dance (One Sweet Jess-Bac Dancer), Sealin Dealin (Fighter On Fire-Six And Stones), The Bossgirl (Class Jump-Fanny B) and Sevenzz (Ragazzo-Six And Stones) completed the order of finish.
Peace Country Derby
STRIPSTEAK

Stripsteak was able to pull off another victory, this time in stakes company, in the $20,092 Peace Country Derby on July 29 at Evergreen Park. Ridden by Alejandro Hernandez, the bay gelding broke fourth from the 8-gate and gained ground at each call throughout the 400 yards to cross the wire first by 3/4-length, stopping the clock in :19.779 for a 107 speed index.
Stripsteak was the fastest qualifier from the July 15 trials, winning his July 15 trial heat wire-to-wire by an impressive 2 1/2-lengths in :19.901 where he captured a 104 speed index.
Charles G. Stojan owns Stripsteak, who is trained by William Leech. The gelding brought home the $9,041 winner’s share that pushed his earnings to $25,032.
Stripsteak now has a race record of 10-6(1)- 0-1 with this win marking his second consecutive victory. He set a New Track Record for 400 yards in :19.999 in the 2017 Canada Quarter Horse Cup Futurity Trials at Century Downs.
Steve D. Burns DVM bred Stripsteak out of 4-time winner Ruths Chris. She has produced 100% money earners from eight starters, including top money earner Black Fryday, who scored big this week- end, winning the July 28 Governors Cup Futurity
at Los Alamitos, and Yourdarkestnitemare, who was third in the 2017 Hadley/Giles Futurity. Stripsteak is now the second stakes winner in the brood.
True Copy (TR Dasher-Realistically) was second under Ricardo Moreno. The second fastest qualifier from the July 15 trials is also owned by Charles G. Stojan and trained by William Leech. The filly won this year’s All Canadian Derby and last years Canada Quarter Horse Cup Futurity-G3.
JD Wagon Boss (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Elly Mae) was third. The brown colt was ridden by Blandford Stewart for owner/trainer Buckey A. Stockewell. The colt was third in his July 15 trial heat and set the ninth fastest time to the finals. JD Wagon Boss won last year’s Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge and was second in the John Deere Los Alamitos Juvenile Championship Challenge. He also qualified to the Ruidoso Derby Challenge-G3 earlier this year.
Atomic Blondie (Birdzilla TB-Sables Val) was fourth and was followed by First Prize Cruise (First Prize Doc-Eye Cruise), Dont Hezitate (Ivory James- Jess Brimmin To Go), Shawnee Cartel (Teller Cartel- Shawnee Royale) and Gone To Be Bright (Gone To The Mountain-DJ Bright Tarbaby.
Jerry Stojan Memorial Futurity
SINGLES CRUISE

Singles Cruise dominated the July 8 trials and was the fastest qualifier going into the $15,313 Jerry Stojan Memorial Futurity at Evergreen Park on July 27.
In the trials, Singles Cruise made a wire-to-wire run, crossing the wire on top with a neck margin
of victory.
His :15.660 earned her a career-high 95 speed index in just her second start. In her maiden run, she was fifth in the All Canadian Futurity at Lethbridge.
In The Jerry Stojan Memorial Futurity finals, the brown filly got away from the 2-post on top and led at every call, crossing the wire first by 1/2-length in :15.680 to earn a 94 speed index.
The filly added $15,313 to her bankroll and her race record is now 3-2(1)-0-0. Alejandro Hernandez was handling the reins and made a great ride.
The filly was the fastest qualifier from two trials held on July 8. The final was originally scheduled for July 22, but was canceled due to bad weather.
Singles Cruise is owned by Barry and Janice Sather. Janice also trains the filly.
Bred in California by Steve D. Burns DVM, Singles Cruise is out of lightly raced Going Single. She has produced 100% earners from four starters, including Evergreen Park Derby Challenge winner Snowboundbeast, who set a New Track Record
for 400 yards and is also multiple graded stakes placed. Singles Cruise is her second stakes winner. Snouboundbeast is her top money earner.
Special Corona Wave (Wave Carver-Special Corona) ran a steady and even race down the middle of the track to pocket second place money. His team includes owners Bugle Hill Stable and Trackontwo Stable and Wayne Pidhirney. Trainer Les Webb had Juan Apango in the irons. The geld- ing was third in his trial as well as his debut.
Ifarm (Coronado Cartel-Avery Hope) overcame a bad break by hustling up to third place. The brown gelding is owned by Buckey and Beverly Stockwell. Buckey also trains Ifarm. Blandford Stewart had the riding assignment. Ifarm is still a maiden, but finished third in his debut at Rocky Mountain Turf Club.
Timbersknightryder (First Timber-Sparkling Hy) finished fourth and was followed by Mals Sweet Jess (One Sweet Jess-First A Princess), O Kingsley (First Timber-Burners Beauty) and Zoomn Wave (Wave Carver-SLS Room To Zoom). Hortons Kid Dynamite scratched.
