HAREM BAR CARTEL
by Tracy Gantz
Trainer Danny Montes saddled two horses in the $33,400 Grants Pass Firecracker Futurity on July 4. It was Harem Bar Cartel , however, who defeated his stablemate, Reginas Royal Choice, in the 350- yard event.
Jockey Ruben Lozano got Harem Bar Cartel smartly out of the 6-hole on the lead, and they never let anyone get close. Reginas Royal Choice passed horses from 4th place and closed ground, but Harem Bar Cartel drew out at the wire and had a 3/4-length winning margin. Harem Bar Cartel completed the race in :17.515 for a wire-to-wire victory. The sorrel gelding posted a career-best 105 speed index, and the $13,360 winner’s share boosted his earnings to $14,845.

Ruth F. Barbour’s Country Boy 123 kept his perfect season intact with a wire-to-wire 1-length victory in the $30,656 All Canadian Maturity at
Ajax Downs on July 22.
Ridden by Cory Spataro for trainer Bryn

Country Boy 123 has now won 15 of 23 starts with $219,876 in earnings. The gelding has seven stakes wins, all at Ajax Downs, including last year’s All Canadian Classic Maturity.
“When I saw him bucking and playing in
the walking ring, I knew he was ready to roll,” said Spataro. “He broke great out of the gate, and Countrys Comin Bac was right beside him, but within two jumps he was on his way.”
Country Boy 123 was bred by Carolyn C. Bay, who also bred 2011 World Champion Cold Cash 123 under the name of T-Bill Stables Inc.
