WAGON CHICK V

Ten bright stars lined up for the running
of the historic $50,000 Mr Jet Moore Handicap-G2. The star that shone the brightest in the field was Wagon Chick V.
Except for one, every horse in the race had made over $100,000. Some with two, three, four, and up to over a million and a half. It was a star-studded field to say the least.
Wagon Chick V stumbled a bit out of the 4-post, but under the guidance of jockey Juan Pulido, finished a nose in front. They completed the 400 yards in :19.740 to earn a 93 speed index.
Trained by Clinton Crawford for owner MJR Investment Ltd., the filly earned the first-place check of $30,000, boosting her total bankroll to $251,650, and now boasts a race record of 16-7(1)-3(1)-1.
Mile High Derby
“We got this filly out of the Heritage Place Sale for $25,000,” said trainer Clint Crawford.
“We were really high on her until she ran two terrible schooling races,” Crawford said. “We then decided to enter a maiden race. After the win, G. R. Carter said this filly is the real deal. She has had a roller coaster of a career. She proved us wrong, and she pulled up good.
She is a big baby around the barn, but she gets gritty when she steps on the track. We are now looking towards the Gold Cup, then on to California.”
Valeriano Racing Stables bred Wagon Chick V out
of New Mexico Hi-Point Aged Mare Me Chickie, winner of the Lineage Championship-RG2. The mare has produced 100% money earners from eight starters, including stakes placed JM Onehotchickie.
Wagon Chick V became her first stakes winner and top money earner with this win.
Trained by Ricardo Armendariz, New News (Majestic Cartel-Executive Promises) broke decent, but just missed at the wire under Tanner Thedford for owners Elco Armendariz and Omar Ruiz Jr.
Rarin (Inseperable-Rare Kayoh) held on to third place under Martin Felix for owner Olaya Munoz Durate and trainer Rodolfo Valles.
Jacky Martin 21 (FDD Dynasty-Fleeting Touch), FDD Can Jazz (FDD Dynasty-Jazzy Corona), Valiant Rogue (Valiant Hero-Azoom Babe), Uptown Dynasty (Mr Jess Perry-Ms Southern Dynasty), Jessies First Down (FDD Dynasty-Jess A Classy Lassy), Hes Limitless (Corona Cartel-PJ Chick In Black) and LD Is Back (Walk Thru Fire-Prima LD) completed the field.
the early lead and finished a close second for owner Cesar Nunez and trainer Eliazar Salas. Juan Pulido drew the riding assignment. The gelding was a finalist in the 2018 Mile High Futurity and in the Rocky Mountain Futurity.
Midnite Dash (Bodacious Dash-DG Sumit) placed third as part of a blanket finish. Pedro and Lila Andazola own the gelding, another of Michel-Valverde’s trainees. Armando Ramirez was in the irons. The gelding was second in last year’s Mile High Futurity.
Denali Snowflake (Louisiana Senator- One Famous Folly), One Two (One Sweet Jess-Im Hayley Two), Aint She Kool (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Purdy Kool) and Jess
Un Sies Mas (Apollitical Jess-Seis Star Glitter) rounded out the order of finish. DG Favorite, Dubdeuce and Ryans Cartel were all scratched.
     COULD BE HOTTER
by John Moorehouse
Could Be Hotter made a blazing finish to secure his first stakes victory on Aug. 11 at Arapahoe Park, winning the $96,344
Mile High Derby.
Junior’s Quarter Horses Inc. owns the
sophomore gelding, who got to the winner’s circle for the fourth time in a 12-race career. Three of those victories now have come in a span of four starts.
A sloppy sealed track couldn’t slow down Could Be Hotter. The
Hipolito Michel-Valverde
trainee broke well in second
from the four-gate and was running a close third at the first call. The sorrel gelding moved into second going into the stretch, then over- took Logans Favorite with
a strong finish to reach the wire first by a head.
Roberto Valero drew the riding assignment as Could Be Hotter completed his
stakes-winning 400-yard trip in :19.899, registering a 93 speed index.
The victory produced a $39,364 payday that increased the gelding’s career bankroll to $65,563. The vast majority of that sum has come this year - $57,257 to be precise. His sophomore campaign has included
a runner-up performance in the Rocky Mountain Derby in June.
Edward C. Allred bred Could Be Hotter and home-bred his dam,
Look Her Over, a 2004 mare and multiple stakes winner herself. Look Her Over’s
pair of stakes victories
came at Los Alamitos in the California Breeders’ 550 Sophomore Stakes and the AQHA Members Plus Stakes. Could Be Hotter is a product of Champion sire Walk Thru Fire.
