Rockys Candy Shop added a second stakes win to what has been a standout campaign with his vic- tory in the $76,312 QHRAI Stallion Service Auction
Derby at Indiana Grand Race Course on Aug. 25. Trained by Randy Smith, who also saddled the
winner in the QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Futurity on this same card, Rockys Candy Shop broke on top from the 4-post, opening a 1-length lead by the time he reached the first call. Rockys Candy Shop led by that same advantage entering the stretch, then held on to win by 3/4-length margin.
Jose Beltran was aboard for the 400-yard trip, which was completed in :19.886 for a 91 speed index.
Owned by Lance Finlinson, Rockys Candy Shop made his fourth trip to the winner’s circle this year. The gelding also won the Blue River Derby at Indiana Grand back in July. For his career, Rockys Candy Shop has a record of 10-6(2)-2-1(1), and the $29,762 payday from this race boosted his total lifetime earnings to $146,013.
Stanley Forbes bred Rockys Candy Shop out of winner Jesses Candy. She has produced 100% money earners from six starters, including stakes placed Jess Shantastic. Rockys Candy Shop is her first stakes winner and top earner.
Smith also trains Beach Mercedes (Escondido Beach-Jess Alive Bully), who was second under Sergio Ramirez for owner Sheri Miller.
HQH Fancy Pants (Fantastic Corona Jr-Streakin Keep Sake) finished third under Juan Galvan for owners Jenifer Haynes & Dianna Jaqua and trainer Ron Raper. Twisted Lil Secret (No Secrets Here-Jess A Lil Twisted), Air Born Rio (Desirio-Air Born Babe), Tuff E Nuff (Palm Beach-Tuff Southern Gal), Chic Down Lo (Jumpn Chic-Sharjah), Bono Rhythm (Bono Jazz-Dashs Rhythm), Fish Head (The Crawfish-Kool And Collected) and JJ James (Jesse James Jr-Nurse Toni) completed the order of finish.

WH Design By Dash notched his fifth stakes victory in the $87,200 Bob Woodard Memorial Classic Stakes at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino on Aug. 24.
WH Design By Dash broke last when the gate opened, but he rushed up under jockey Rodney Prescott, to grab the win by a nose in :20.065 for 400 yards. WH Design By Dash brought home the $47,960 winner’s share of the purse for owner Julia Rae Martin and trainer Paul Martin, boost- ing his total lifetime earnings to $420,761. The Central Hi-Point Aged Gelding/Central Hi-Point Three-Year-Old Gelding now has a race record
of 40-13(5)-9(5)-8(5). The 7-year-old gelding has raced exclusively at Indiana Grand, and he has won four other stakes, including three editions of the Born Runner Classic as well as the Leader Of The Class Stakes.
Greg Morrison bred WH Design By Dash out
of lightly raced Fast Mans Dash. She has produced 100% money earners from nine starters, including 2012 Jaguar Rocket Stakes winner WH Johnnie Boy Red. WH Design By Dash is her second stakes win- ner and top earner.
Ronald Brown trains second-place WH Kenny G (Gold Medal Jess-Designer Dash) and owns him with Robert Ray. Samuel Mendez rode the gelding.
Santiago Mendez piloted Sicario (Jumpn Chic- Chiseleasterbunny) to third for owner Adriana Almanza and trainer Julio Almanza.

Speed Sale Futurity
ONE SMART JESS

One Smart Jess soared to his first stakes victory in the $43,904 Speed Sale Futurity at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino on Sept. 15.
With Leonardo Rodriguez in the saddle, One Smart Jess broke on top and led throughout. The gelding’s stablemate, Jesslikethat, closed ground to make it close, but One Smart Jess held off the filly to win by a head in :16.742, posting a career-best 103 speed index.
The $24,640 winner’s share boosted the gelding’s total lifetime earnings to $30,086.
John McCreary trains One Smart Jess for Jeff Bonnell and John Murphy’s Brushy Valley Farm. The gelding broke his maiden in the Speed Sale Futurity, having finished second once in four previ- ous starts. He was also 5th in the Jaguar Rocket Futurity earlier this year.
“He’s a horse that has had talent. He just hasn’t had a chance to use it,” said McCreary.
Brushy Valley Farm bred One Smart Jess out
of unraced First Smart Stride. She has produced 100% money earners from nine starters, including 3-time stakes winner Lovemelikethat, who set a New Track Record at Hoosier Park for 400 yards and was also named Central Hi-Point 3-Year-Old Filly and Central Hi-Point Aged Mare.
Jesslikethat (One Sweet Jess-Lovemelikethat)
and Luis Guerrero were second for owners Shelly & Chris Burke and trainer John McCreary. Jose Beltran rode Stoneburner (Brimmstone-Luella Joy) to third for owner Gerald Keesling and trainer Randy Smith. Above The Brimm (Brimmstone-CSC Cinnamon Toast), Six On The Brimm (Tough To Get Six- Brimms Fairy Tale), HH Joes Shadow (One Famous Versace-Shakem Jake), My Secret Money (Habits Secret-Struttin For Money) and WH Big Boy Holiday (Brookstone Bay-MP Perfect Margarita) completed the field. Regal Beach scratched.
