Bill Reed Memorial Stakes
LET THERE BE SOUND

Let There Be Sound scored his first stakes victory in the $20,000 Bill Reed Memorial Stakes at Ruidoso Downs on Sept. 2.
Under Benito Baca, Let There Be Sound broke third from his rail post and led at every remaining call en route to an impressive 4-length victory.
They completed the 870 yards in :44.644, post- ing a career-best 110 speed index.
The gelding brought home the $12,000 win- ner’s share of the purse for owners Louis & Corrine Howard and trainer John Stinebaugh, boosting his total lifetime earnings to $68,750.
Let There Be Sound has won four of 19 starts, all at the 870-yard distance.
Black Oak Farm bred Let There Be Sound and he was acquired by the Howards for $50,000 at
the 2015 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. His dam, Sakakawea TB, earned $371,850 from 21 outs and won four Iowa-bred stakes at Prairie Meadows from 2009-12. She has produced 100% money earners from two starters. Let There Be Sound, her only Quarter Horse foal, is the mare’s first stakes winner and top earner.
Let There Be Sound’s second dam, Sarouka, produced Des Moines, a stakes-winning half-sister to Sakakawea and an earner of $68,750.
Billy Big Rock (Rock Solid Jess-Fly N Chix) and Salvador Martinez finished second for owner Jack Manning and trainer Kristi Petersen.
Mahoney N Tacklebery (Favorite Cartel- Fountain Bleu) ran third under Ricky Ramirez for owner Ben Peterson and trainer Todd Fincher.
D E Wagons Strawfly (Genuine Strawfly-Wagons Maiden), Tag Yur It (Roll Hennessy Roll TB-Upside Down), First Place TB (First Samurai-Right Place), Ranger The Stranger (Mighty B Valiant-Misty Lake TB) and DM Nate Dog (Gonna Ro Sham Bo-Kat Kora) completed the order of finish.

CARTELS STAR DADDY

Cartels Star Daddy earned his second stakes vic- tory in the $25,000 First Moonflash Stakes at Ruidoso Downs on Sept. 1.
Ridden by Raul Herrera, Cartels Star Daddy broke in second from the 4-post, but grabbed the lead midway through the race to cross the wire 1 1/2-lengths in front.
They completed the 350 yards in :17.365 while posting a season-best 99 speed index. The gelding earned $15,000 and has now extended his win streak to four races.
Cartels Star Daddy was claimed by owner/trainer Martin Orona Sr. for $7,500 on March 2 at Sunland Park, and he was shortening in distance off his 1-length victory in the Zia Handicap-RG2 on July 29.
Campaigned exclusively in New Mexico, Cartels Star Daddy has won seven of 17 outs and has banked $151,044, of which $60,600 has been earned from three races since the claim.
Jimmy Negrete bred Cartels Star Daddy out of 2004 Cherry Creek Futurity-RG3 winner Chivato Star. The mare was also a finalist in the 2004 Mile High Futurity-G2. She has produced 100% winners from two starters. Cartels Star Daddy is her first stakes winner and top earner.
You And Eye (Chicks Regard-Jess Uni) was sec- ond under Tanner Thedford for owner Sergio Castro and for trainer Cynthia Gonzalez.
Eyesawagon (Gonamakeyoureyesblue-Wagons Maiden) and Federico Martinez were third for owners Manuel Villagran & Juan Corral and trainer Jaime Aldavaz Sr.
Nolans Theory (Chicks Regard-Shez Classy Now), Arandanos (Jesse James Jr-Shes A Hauler), First Moon Fire (First Moonflash-Walkin Thru Fire), Mystic Daddy (Big Daddy Cartel-Arbor Mist) and Dream Bigg (Big Daddy Cartel-Three Dee Dreams) completed the order of finish.

BOOGIES SPECIAL DASH

Boogies Special Dash scored his first stakes win in the $25,000 John Andreini Memorial Stakes at Ruidoso Downs on Sept. 2.

Ruthardt, Boogies Special Dash covered 440 yards in :21.629. Adrian Ramos rode the gelding, who earned a 90 speed index while racing against a reported 12-mph head wind.
Boogies Special Dash was moving up in class and stretching out in distance off of his 1 1/4-length victory in a 350-yard $13,100 2nd-level allowance at Ruidoso on Aug. 4.
Raced in New Mexico, Iowa, and Oklahoma, Boogies Special Dash has won eight of 24 outs
and has banked $392,572. The gelding’s season record includes a second-place run, a neck behind winner Imperial Eagle, in the 400-yard West Texas Maturity-G3 at Sunland Park on March 10.
Jaime Gomez bred Boogies Special Dash out of Boogie Special, who finished third in the 2003 Denim N Diamonds Handicap and La Conchita Handicap. She has produced 100% money earners from 10 starters. Boogies Special Dash is a full brother to This Boogie Fires, the third-place finisher in Champion Separate Fire’s 2011 Kindergarten Futurity-G1 at Los Alamitos. He is also a full brother to two additional graded stakes finalists in California, Fire Specialist and Down To Boogie.
Kowboy Jim (FDD Dynasty-Counting On You) and Cody Jensen finished second for owner/trainer Dean Frey.
Llano Senator (Louisiana Senator-Eyesa Lil Cuervo) ran third under Sergio Becerra Jr. for owner Wootan Racing and trainer Gerald Reed.
Favored One Sweet (One Sweet Jess-Favored), Time To Jazz (One Sweet Jess-Baja Jazz), Born To B Bad (Freighttrain B-Dosvedanya) and Don Quixote (Stel Corona-Romanticist) completed the order of finish.
