Alberta Stallion Stakes Derby
KNOTTY KNITA

Knotty Knita scored her first stakes victory in
the $21,368 Alberta Stallion Stakes Derby at Northlands Park on Aug. 15.
The filly broke from the 9-post and was running
in the middle of the pack both at the first call and into the stretch. Jockey Ceasar Cervantes urged the filly into a big finish as she chased down her rivals, getting to the wire first by a head. Knotty Knita completed her 350-yard trip in :17.128, posting an 88 speed index. She scored her breakthrough stakes win after finishing third in last year’s versions of the Canada Quarter Horse Cup Futurity-RG3 and the Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge-G3.
Knotty Knita brought home the $9,616 winner’s share of the purse for breeder/owner/trainer Wesley Oulton, boosting her total lifetime earnings to $26,915. Her record is now 17-3(1)-2-2(2).
Oulton bred Knotty Knita out of winner Ima Jess A Streaker. She has produced 100% winners from three starters, including 2016 Alberta Stallion Stakes Derby winner and top earner Ima Runnin First. Knotty Knita is her second stakes winner.
Fastest qualifier The Western Special (Special Fly Bye-Miss Dashing Vana) finished second under Blandford Stewart for owner Westwind Oilfield Services and trainer Buckey Stockwell.
Machete (Wild On Corona-Queens Royal Dynasty) and Alejandro Hernandez were third for own- ers Barry & Janice Sather, who also trained the gelding.
Atomic Blondie (Birdzilla TB-Sables Val), SS Sunny Days (Cuivre River-Dancin Miss Disco) & Thisbudsforyou (Streakinisanattitude-Highnest
TB) were followed by Alberta Krome (Sizzlin Red Corona-Cleats Rockette) and O Shiver Me Timbers (First Timber-Sass N Dass) in a dead heat for seventh, then Miracle Candy Girl (Miracle Recovery-Shes My Candy Girl) and Mr Eleanor (First Timber-Lets Get Going) completed the order of finish.
Western States Breeders Derby
SP FOUR SQUARE

SP Four Square notched his second stakes victory in a row in the $25,000 Western States Breeders Derby at Sweetwater Downs on Sept. 8.
Under Jesus Valenzuela, SP Four Square broke in fourth from the 4-post and quickly grabbed the lead at the first call and continued to widen his lead, crossing the wire an impressive 2-lengths in front. They completed the 400 yards in :19.869, post- ing a 96 speed index.
SP Four Square brought home the $10,099 winner’s share of the purse for owner Jess Udy and trainer Riley Moosman, pushing his total lifetime earnings to $33,674.
Earlier this year, SP Four Square scored his first stakes victory in the Wyoming Downs-Renegade Sports Derby and now has a race record of 14-5(2)-1-2.
The gelding spent the winter campaigning at Los Alamitos and has finished no worse than third since returning to Wyoming.
Spencer Peterson bred SP Four Square out of lightly raced Fountain Bleu. She has produced 100% money earners from three starters, including Grade 1 finalist Mahoney N Tackleberry, winner of the 2016 Western States Breeders Futurity. SP Four Square is her second stakes winner.
Fantastic Minion (Fantastic Corona Jr-Gigarad) was second under Todd Thomas for owners Kirk Woolf & Ralph Hartline and trainer Jay Pitcher.
LT Heza Winner (Winners Version-Nurturist) and Jesus Osuna were third for owner Aron Saenz and trainer Diana Garfias.
Favorite Snowflake (Favorite Cartel-Alibi Fame), UD Goldenboy (JR Dynasty Mountain- Bvlgari B), Champion Winner (Winners Version- Champion Ways) and Sheza Special Legacy (Eyesa Special Slim-Cashin Kirk Legacy) completed the order of finish. Favorite Fire Boy and Winners Runaway were scratched.
Rock Springs WYO Bred Futurity
MY ILLUSIVE SECRET

My Illusive Secret soared to her first stakes win in the $29,000 Rock Springs Wyoming Bred Futurity at Sweetwater Downs on Sept. 9.
Jockey Jesus Valenzuela and My Illusive Secret broke in third from the 5-post and grabbed the lead at the first call. They continued to expand their lead as they headed into the stretch and crossed the wire a neck in front.
They completed the 350 yards in :17.753 while posting an 89 speed index.
My Illusive Secret brought home the $11,600 winner’s share of the purse for owner/breeder Gerald Kaul and trainer Jesse Villegas, pushing his total earnings to $21,260.
The gelding has never finished worse than third in his career, with a race record of 3(1)-2-2 from seven starts.
Kaul bred My Illusive Secret out of 4-time win- ner Secretly Illusive, who was second in the 2008 Wyoming All Breed Futurity. She is a half-sister to 2014 Wyoming Downs Bonus 870 Challenge winner Sweet American Honey. Secretly Illusive has pro- duced 100% winners from three starters. The geld- ing’s second dam is An Illusive Glance, who was third in the 2000 Dan Lockie Derby. She also finished fourth in the 1999 Diamond Classic Futurity-RG1.
Brindis Cruz (Brindis Por Cayenne-Gm Check Her Out) was second under Santiago Jimenez for owner Lana Matt and trainer Jess R Matt. VVR No Refunds (Coronas Velvet-Apollo Storm) and Oscar Cervantes were third for owner Anais Robles and trainer Diana Garfias. Followed by Fame Creek (Conn Creek-Makn Fame), A Dash Of Dynasty (Jr Dynasty Mountain-A Dash Of Steffi), Switching Creeks (Conn Creek-RM Switching Chicks), Wave Experte (Wave Carver-Expertease), Jewel Diamond Girl (Maknmoves-BCR Dashing Sue) & Chloes Smoke N Fame (Smoke N Sparks-KJ Dasher).
