JD Wagon Boss ran true to form in the $24,120 John Deere Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge at Grande Prairie on Aug. 20.
JD Wagon Boss broke third from the four-gate under Jose Rocha and jumped to second by the first call after a bothered start. The brown
colt was in the lead by 1-length at the stretch and barreled to the line to fin- ish 1 1/4-lengths in front at the wire after a huge effort. The duo stopped the timer in :17.728 for the 350 yards, earning a career best 103 speed index.
The $11,577 winner’s share of the purse pushed the colt’s bankroll to $14,855.
JD Wagon Boss is owned by Beverly and Buckey Stockwell, who also trains him. The colt won his Aug. 5 trial wire-to-wire by 3-lengths for the fastest qualifying time of :17.743 to the finals of this race.
With his first stakes victory in the John Deere Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge, JD Wagon
Boss’s record remains perfect with three wins from three career starts.
JD Wagon Boss made his first start on June 23 at Lethbridge, winning a 300-yard maiden event. In that race, he broke on top and received every call. He won the maiden with a big finish and 4 3/4-lengths separation over the second-place finisher.
Jockey Jose Rocha has ridden him in all of his races thus far. JD Wagon Boss was bred in
Oklahoma by Jean Dillard out of lightly-raced Elly Mae. The mare has produced 100% earners from four starters, including winners See Me Do It Too and What The.
JD Wagon Boss is the first stakes
winner in the brood as well as the top earner.
Stole An Encore (Ivory James-Rare Encore) ran a fine race and had the lead for a couple of jumps. She was able to hang on for second place money. Her team includes owners Ralph Danard and Carrie Suitor. Laurie Ferguson is in charge of saddling. J B Botello was in the irons, Stole An Encore was outnodded in her Aug. 5 trial and finished second for the third fastest qualifying position.
Eighth fastest qualifier Knotty Knita (First Timber-Ima Jess A Streaker) finished third in the finals after stumbling at the start for owner/trainer Wesley T. Oulton. Ceasar Cervantes was up.
Quentis Angel (Jet Black Patriot- Tailor Dayne), BS Playing For Keeps (Azoom-Chrysis), KR Temptrus (Tempting Dash-KR Ladyhawk), First Prize Cruise (First Prize Doc- Eye Cruise) and Stripsteak (One Sweet Jess-Ruths Chris) completed the order of finish.
