Hawkeye & Rodrigo Vallejo inched away for a 3/4-length win
Race record: 3-3-0-0 Day 2, Race #1
Bobby Cox’s homebred Hawkeye set the bar high in the 1st trial on the 2nd day when he won by 3/4-length in :21.807, which stood up as the day’s 3rd-fastest mark. With Rodrigo Sigala Vallejo in the irons, Hawkeye left the gates with the leaders from the 7 hole. He dueled with early leader Trace Dynasty
before pulling away to beat the favorite and secure a starting spot in the finals. The win was the 3rd from as many starts for Hawkeye, who will make his 1st stakes appearance on Labor Day. He started his career in the barn of trainer Jose Flores at Los Alamitos, then moved to the Ruidoso Downs barn of Judd Kearl. Hawkeye was saddled by James Padgett II in the All American trials. Hawkeye is by AQHA World Champion One Dashing Eagle, who won the 2012 All American Futurity. He is out of the graded stakes winning Runaway Winner mare No Fees, who won all 6 of her starts and banked $166,320 from 2003-04. She is the dam 23 starters, including graded stakes-placed winners Sinuous si 99 ($105,956), Andorite si 95 ($77,342), and Heavy Croozer si 106 ($37,876), all 1/2-siblings to Hawkeye. Hes Limitless & Agustin Silva go wire-to-wire for a 1/2-length win
Race record: 4-1-2(1)-1 Day 1, Race #1
Hes Limitless was first out of the gates in the first trial on the first day, giving his connections the longest wait of any to see if his win- ning time of :21.816 would hold up as a qualifying time for the All American Futu- rity. In the end, it did, and Hes Limitless will represent owner Jack Smith Farms and trainer John Stinebaugh in
the featured race on Labor Day. Ridden by Agustin Silva, who has been aboard the gelding for all four career starts, Hes Limitless took the early lead from post position three and held off a strong challenge from favored Jesse Lane to cross the finish line 1/2-length in front. The win was his first and came on the heels of a second-place finish in the $100,000 Rainbow Juvenile on July 23. Owner Jack Smith Farms also co-bred Hes Limitless along with Denny Bowen and Susan Taylor. The royally bred gelding is
by leading sire Corona Cartel and is from the first crop of 2012 AQHA Champion Two-Year-Old Filly PJ Chick In Black, who was the fastest qualifier to the 2012 All American Futurity-G1 before running sixth be- hind One Dashing Eagle. PJ Chick In Black won 8 of 14 starts at 2 and 3, including the Ruidoso Futurity-G1, New Mexican Spring Futurity-RG2 and West Texas Derby-G3. Hes Limitless was a $90,000 repurchase when consigned to the 2015 Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale as a foal in utero.
