 AQhrA Gold Classic Stakes
Pow wow LAne
by Tracy Gantz
Seven years old, and Pow Wow Lane proved he’s still got it. The gelding won his first three stakes at two and three in 2007 and 2008. He was back
in the winner’s circle after a black-type event at age seven, having taken the Aug. 22 AQHRA Gold Classic Stakes at Northlands Park.
Partnering with jockey Tyler Walker has also helped. The two first collaborated to win an allow- ance race before tackling the Gold Classic. Though Pow Wow Lane got away slowly in the 330-yard stakes, he closed fast and won by a neck in :17.350.
Earl Brown bred Pow Wow Lane in Alberta, Canada, and campaigned him for four seasons. During that time, the gelding won the 2007 Canada Quarter Horse Cup Futurity-RG3 and Alberta
Bred Futurity-RG3 and the 2008 Alberta Bred Derby-RG3. Pow Wow Lane began racing in the name of Herds Racing in 2011 and has since won four races and finished second twice, including in the 2011 Evergreen Park Championship Challenge, in seven starts. Donalda Cochrane trains the gelding.
Cash In This Lane, the dam of Pow Wow Lane, finished third in the 1997 All Canadian Derby of Alberta. The mare has produced four winners from six starters, and all four have won stakes.
Juan Garcia piloted Legacys A Streakin (Streakin La Jolla-Legacy Tells All) for owner Ed Borgstrom and trainer Laurie Ferguson. Legacys A Streakin earlier this year won the John Deere AQHA Classic Stakes.
Rigetti Farms Ltd.’s homebred Glittering Blue (Jess Louisiana Blue-Glitter Galore) finished third under Valentino McBean. Les Webb trains the stallion.
Completing the field were Roberts Running Boot (Spanish Boot-Mongoose Chick), Chrysis (Corona Cartel-Special Crys), Howdoyalikemesofar (Oak Tree Special-Sheza Soverign Dash), and CR Leading La Jolla (Special Leader-Fashionismyattitude). Memories N Moments was scratched.
Black Gold Insulation Classic S.

zoom Zoomin hadn’t reached the winner’s circle in nearly two years before winning his first stakes in the Aug. 22 Black Gold Insulation Classic Stakes at Northlands Park. He was always right there, though, as he finished second or third in his past eight starts.
With Tyler Walker in the irons, Zoom Zoomin broke fastest from the gate in the Black Gold and sprinted to an early daylight lead, while favored Sepratariat dwelt in the gate and came away several lengths behind the field. Zoom Zoomin set the pace around the turn, going a little wide. He held onto his advantage and won by an easy three lengths in :41.300 for the 770 yards.
Janice Sather trains Zoom Zoomin, and she bred and owns the 4-year-old stallion with Barry Sather. At Northlands Park at 2, Zoom Zoomin finished second in the Alberta Stallion Futurity. The next year, also at Northlands, he ran second in the Alberta Bred Derby and the Alberta Stallion Derby. He also ran third in the Canada Quarter Horse Cup Derby at Lethbridge.
Winner Butter Milk Pie is the dam of Zoom Zoomin and seven other winners from a total of nine starters. They include stakes winners Memories N Moments and Splashy Pizazzy, plus stakes-placed Long Gone Jenna Jean, Struttin Some Stuff, and Keep On Keepin On.
Birdzilla Amour (Birdzilla-TB-Secret Amour) finished second under Logun Gotham. Angelle Carter trains the 6-year-old gelding for owner Del Gehring. Birdzilla Amour ran third in the 2011 Bank of America Evergreen Park Championship Challenge.
Juan Garcia piloted TR Dashing (TR Dasher- Corona Clique) to third for owner Peter Landry and trainer William Leech.
Rounding out the field were Vox (Stoli-Star Of Sierra Leone), Sepratariat (Separatist-Pocketful Of Dreams), and Toast With De Oh (Toast To Dash- Coup De Oh).
Simulcast Services Stakes
LIL MISS hATCh
By Michael Compton
Lil Miss Hatch was in demand at the claim box when last seen under silks. Claimed out of consecutive starts at Delta Downs in April and May
of 2011, the 7-year-old mare justified her popularity after more than a year on the shelf with a clear vic- tory in the $18,000 Simulcast Services Stakes at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds on Aug. 25.
Ridden by Eliazar Vera, Lil Miss Hatch jumped to a half-length lead after the break of the 330-yard dash. She received pressure from favorite Dale N James, but countered that rival’s threat with another gear of her own to cross the wire a half-length win- ner. Lil Miss Hatch stopped the timer in :16.606 in winning her first stakes event in a 35-race career.
Bred in Texas by Ted Abrams, Lil Miss Hatch races in the colors of Lozano Macedonio and is condi- tioned by Eusevio Huitron. Lil Miss Hatch placed in five stakes prior to this win. She is the first stakes win- ner for her dam, Miss Hatch-TB, who has produced five starters and four winners from seven Quarter Horse foals including stakes-placed Suchafastchic.
Dale N James (Okey Dokey Dale-Sweet Jessica James) finished second under Luis Vivanco for trainer Cindi Keeton. Dale N James is owned by Bob McClure and entered the race off a stakes score at Retama in his last start. Fast Dashin Dude, ridden by Santos Carrizales for trainer Jorge Haddad, rallied late for third as the longest shot in the 10-horse field. Fast Dashin Dude (Heza Fast Dash-First Down Delight) is owned by Eddie Casas.
Completing the order of finish were Find Me
A Hero (Valiant Hero-Lavish Me), Jump Down Azoom (Azoom-Jump Down First), Mr Sonic Boom (Easy Winning Jet-Ms Baseline), Marys Corazon (Azoom-Streakin O Toole), Pink Cartel (Jet Cartel- Shades of Pink-TB), RC Straight Runaway (Winners Award-Diamonds for Toys) and Cloned With Class (Streakin La Jolla-Hiclass Cloned).
