Texas Classic Futurity-G1
TRUMP MY RECORD
by John Moorehouse
Trump My Record already had staked his claim as one of the top two-year-old Quarter Horses in the country this year—and he added yet another banner accomplishment to his resumé when he won the $904,631 Texas Classic Futurity-G1 at Lone Star Park on Nov. 9.
The decorated colt left little doubt in this race. Trained by Jose Sanchez III, Trump My Record broke well from the 7-post and led from the first call to the last, finishing the 400-yard trip in :19.464 for a career best 104 speed index.
That was almost exactly the time Trump My Record posted in the Oct. 19 trials (:19.467) to top the qualifying ladder.
Although the finals were smooth, the victory wasn’t free of obstacles as Trump My Record kicked his starting gate during a delay when two of the other slated competitors in the futurity were scratched by the stewards follow- ing a consultation with the track veterinarian.
“It was a scary thing when the horse next to me reared up,” jockey Eddie Sanchez told stal- lionesearch following the race.
“But I was confident,” he continued. “This horse has been amazing all year and it’s hard to describe how this feels.”
The post-time favorite at less than even- money odds, Trump My
Record brought home a
$402,562 payday, more than
doubling his prior earnings to a new career total of $791,153.
Not too shabby, consider- ing the $10,700 investment to purchase the colt at the 2018 TQHA Yearling Sale.
“The most important
thing is a sound horse,”
Sanchez stated. “He always
did everything well, with his
feed, recovery from the tri-
als. He’s an athlete and very
smart. He is calm in his stall, but when you take him out, he knows!”
Cruz Nava owns Trump My Record, a bay colt who now holds eight wins from 10 starts
since making his competitive debut in March at Louisiana Downs. After that first win, he scored four additonal victories to make it five in a row. He tallied his third career stakes victory in the
Texas Classic Futurity-G1, with his others coming in the Grade 3 Harrah’s Futurity held in March at Louisiana Downs, and the Grade 2 Sam Houston Futurity that took place back in May.
Trump My Record’s only two losses also came in the Dash For Cash Futurity-G2 at Lone Star, where he placed second; and a fifth-place run that was marred by a trouble- some start in the TQHA Sale Futurity-G2 at Retama Park .
“First and foremost, we want to thank God for this horse He has given us,” Veronica Nava told stallionesearch.com after the race. “We are very blessed. We are very happy and blessed!”
