“Dean, I’ve been in this business for 37 years,” Kaye replied. “This is horse racing— anything can happen.”
Kaye says she never takes anything for granted. The hard work she and Dan have put in has led to the development of many good Paint racehorses, including their star stallion, CRM Livewire, the sire of Southern Electric.
Bred by Dan and raced by the couple, CRM Livewire is a two-time World Champion Paint, and he is the #4 all-time leading Paint sire
by money earners. This year, he is by far the leading Paint stallion with nearly $1 million in money earners. And last year, the stallion sired five Paint Champions.
“I say now we just live in his world,” said Kaye proudly. “He is doing so well.”
CRM Livewire had two stakes winners for the Joneses on the Nov. 9 card. Three-year-old Live Moonshine, last year’s World Champion Running Paint, captured the Don Drake Memorial Stakes in the race prior to Southern Electric’s victory.
The Joneses bred Southern Electric out
of the lightly raced Quarter Horse mare Ze Southern Girl. She has produced two Paint starters, both winners, and one Quarter Horse
runner, who placed but died of colic early in his racing career.
Kaye said that Ze Southern Girl has no yearling or weanling, but they plan to breed her back to CRM Livewire in 2020.
Cody Smith piloted DTL Chasin
Tale (Wagon Tales-Shez Showin Off) for Whitekiller. The DTL Teel Partnership owns DTL Chasin Tale, who also won the Victoria Ennis Memorial Stakes.
Shirley Wheeler’s homebred JS Gitter
Dun Chicken APHA (Gitter Dun Turnpike- Imachickenkicker) finished third under jockey Travis Cunningham for trainer Leroy Alexander. The gelding is still a maiden, but he has finished second once and third twice in eight prior starts.
