                 Zia Park Championship-G1
RYANSMANONTHEMOON
by Danny Camp
Alittle over a year ago, trainer Cynthia Gonzalez gave the riding assignment on Ryansmanonthemoon to Mauro Salcedo. Since then, the gelding has won six out of nine races and ran second twice. His latest win was the $200,000 Zia Park Championship on Dec. 1.
The gelding stumbled when he broke from the outside gate, and he gave the field a nice lead. He rallied and by mid stretch he was in third, and he crossed the wire 3/4-length in front.
Owned by Jimmy Negrete and Jimmy Vasquez, Ryansmanonthemoon completed the 440 yards in a quick :21.409 to earn a 104 speed index.
The gelding banked
the first place check worth $115,200, which ups his total bankroll to $337,381. His race record is now seven wins from sixteen starts.
Negrete and Vasquez bred Ryansmanonthemoon
out of Zia Futurity-G1 winner Girlonthego, who is a half-sister to Wish You Had One To, second place finisher in the Tommy “Duke” Smith Handicap-RG2 and the Four Corners Senora Stakes-RG3. Girlonthego has produced two stakes winners from
three starters, including Cat Daddys Lil Girl, who won the New Mexico Fillies & Mares Championship-G1 on this same card. Ryansmanonthemoon, with additonal
stakes wins in the NMHBA Sakes-RG2 and Shue Fly Stakes-RG3, is the top earner of the brood.
Valiant Tiberias (Valiant Hero-American Feature) ran a steady and even race to pocket second place money under Alan Hernandez for owners Sergio Holguin Cliften Neilsen and Felix Rodriguez. Wesley Giles
is in charge of condition- ing. The gelding won the
Adequan Derby Challenge Championship-G3 in October and was a finalist in the All American Derby-G1. Danjer (FDD Dynasty- Shez Jess Toxic) broke sharp under Cody Jensen and had the lead for half the race.
He was able to hold on to get third place money for owners Dean Frey, Downtime Enterpises LLC and Billy Smith. The gelding was coming off a victory in the First Down Dash Stakes. Followed by Political Attraction (Apollitical Jess-Gunsight Peak), Tools In The Sky (First Down Dash-No Tools Required), Tough To Bee (Apollitical Jess-Peppermint Seis), Eagle Coast (One Dashing Eagle- Coastal Candy), Hes Limitless (Corona Cartel-PJ Chick In Black), Jess Move You (Apollitical Jess-Gonna Move You) & Stone Cold Leader (Brookstone Bay-Sheza Classy Leader). Hot Dam Bam A Lam scratched.
     Southwest Juvenile Invitational Championship-G2
MR JESS JENKINS
by Michael Compton
Mr Jess Jenkins is on a roll. The All American Futurity-G1 winner returned on Dec. 1 and ran his winning streak to three with a game
victory in the $150,000 Southwest Juvenile Invitational Championship-G2 at Zia Park.
Ridden by James Flores, Mr Jess Jenkins flashed his customary early zip away from the gate on the lead in the 440-yard test. The sorrel gelding shrugged off pressure from his rivals and maintained his advan-
tage through the lane, going
wire-to-wire and crossing the
wire a neck in front of a fast-
finishing Chilitos and jockey
Nestor Duran.
The win, his third con- secutive, was accomplished in the brisk time of :21.388, earning a career best 104 speed index.
Owned by Jose Ernesto Guzman and Rito Sosa, Mr Jess Jenkins is trained by
Marcos Carrizales. The $70,560 winner’s share of the purse increased Mr Jess Jenkins’s earnings to $1,576,180 and improved his race record to 6-3(2)-0-0.
Bred in Oklahoma by V. H. Harman
Jr. and Robert Moudy III, Mr Jess Jenkins
is produced out of unraced Fletching Image. She has produced 100% money earners from nine starters, including 2014 Selma Stakes
winner MSG Image Of Sixes. Mr Jess Jenkins is her top money earner.
Runner-up Chilitos (Apollitical Jess-Mary Me Anna) finished second for owners/breeders Omar and Anna Paredes and trainer Alvin Francis Jr. The sorrel colt was coming off a second place finish in the Nov. 9 Texas Classic Futurity-G1.
Cers Final Try (One Dashing Eagle-BP Shes All
Corona) finished third under Mauro Salcedo. The gelding is owned by Christina Robinson and trained by Tony Sedillo. In his last out, the brown gelding was a finalist in the Oct. 13 Hobbs America Futurity-G2.
Hotsempting (Tempting Dash-Pandorum) finished fourth, Perrys Secret (Hez Our Secret- Sister Jess) was fifth, Meleros Dash (Next Bandit TB-Lorraine Of Terror) was sixth and First Neon Moon (First Moonflash-My Soul Mate) was seventh. Flying Famous Eagle (One Famous Eagle-This Dreams Flying) was dis- qualified from fifth to eighth for drifting and causing interference, and was followed by Dash For Glitter (One Dashing Eagle-Denali Glitter TB) and Number One Interest (Separate Interest-One Slick Cookie). Aggressive Driver and Industrious were scratched.
