BODACIOUS EAGLE
by John Moorehouse
Bodacious Eagle’s seventh stakes win in the first of two of the $15,000 Z. Wayne Griffin Directors Trials at Los Alamitos on Nov. 18 qualified the
veteran gelding to the Champion of Champions. The fastest horse in the two Z. Wayne Griffin
trials combined, Bodacious Eagle completed his 400- yard trip in :19.512, posting a 99 speed index.
Trainer Justin Joiner had Cody Jensen in the irons for Bodacious Eagle, who got away on top from the 5-gate. The gelding led by a 1/2-length going into the stretch and stayed in front the rest of the way, going wire-to-wire to hit the finish line first by a neck.
Entering into to the winner’s circle for the 13th time in 32 career starts, Bodacious Eagle secured an $8,250 payday that pushed his total bankroll to the cusp of a million dollars at $999,486.
La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC bred Bodacious Eagle out of 2-time winner Bodacious Dream.
She has produced 100% money earners from 26 starters, including Emnent, who was a runner-up in last year’s Firecracker Futurity-G2 at Delta Downs. Bodacious Eagle is her first stakes winner and top money earner.
Both Bodacious Eagle and race runner-up Heza Dasha Fire qualified for the Champion of Champions-G1 at Los Alamitos. S-Quarter K LLC owns Heza Dasha Fire (Walk Thru Fire-Dasha Freda), a Jose Flores trainee who had Cruz Mendez in the irons.
Yanque (Favorite Cartel-Red Hawk Chick) fin- ished third under Jorge Bourdieu for owner Martha Wells and trainer Matthew Fales.
The remaining order of finish was Rip Tide (Corona Cartel-Little Surfer), Jess Mas (One Sweet Jess-Corona Mas Fina), Kiddy Up Cowgirl (Kiddy Up-Girls Choice) and Firing Tools (Walk Thru Fire-No Tools Required).

ZOOMIN FOR SPUDS
by John Moorehouse
Champion 3-Year-Old Gelding of 2017, Zoomin For Spuds already had punched his ticket for the Champion of Champions, but built momentum
heading into that event by winning the second of the $15,000 Z. Wayne Griffin Director Trials at Los Alamitos on Nov. 18.
Monty Arrossa trains Zoomin For Spuds, who won in convincing fashion, breaking on top from the 4-post. He seized a 1-length lead as he entered the stretch and went on to win by that same margin. Jesus Ayala was aboard as Zoomin For Spuds finished his 400-yard trip in wire-to-wire fashion in :19.668, registering a 95 speed index.
Home-bred by Jim Walker, Zoomin For Spuds now has a race record of 34-12(10)-11(2)-7(4). His ten stakes wins include the Vessels Maturity-G1 back in July, which qualified the gelding for the $600,000 Champion of Champions-G1, as well as the 2016 running of the Champion of Champions-G1. The $8,250 payday from this race improved the total earnings of Zoomin For Spuds to $667,566.
Walker bred Zoomin For Spuds out of winner A Perfect Cocktail. She has produced 100% winners from five starters, including stakes winners Bux For Cocktail and Jesses Perfect One. Champion Zoomin For Spuds is her top earner.
LD Is Back (Walk Thru Fire-Prima LD) finished second under Ramon Sanchez for owners Darling Farms & Valeriano Racing Stable LLC. Trainer Jaime Gomez also co-owns the gelding. Royaltys Authority (Royaltys Choice-Trick And Fun TB) and Cesar DeAlba were third for owner S and S Horses and trainer Roman Figueroa.

FYRE WALL
by Tracy Gantz
Fyre Wall sprinted to his first stakes win in the $30,000 Los Alamitos Juvenile Invitational on Dec. 16.
Sixth and fourth in his first two outings, Fyre Wall broke his maiden in the Juvenile. His jockey and trainer, Cody Jensen and Justin Joiner, had teamed up the night before to win the Champion of Champions-G1 with Bodacious Eagle.
In the Juvenile, Fyre Wall broke inward and came away in seventh. He put on a strong finish, however, to cross the wire 1/2-length in front.
The sorrel gelding completed the 400 yards in :19.864, posting a career-best 90 speed index.
The $13,800 winner’s share of the purse boosted his total lifetime earnings to $14,400.
R. D. Hubbard bred Fyre Wall out of unraced Lady Jessie Dee. She has produced 100% winners from her two starters. Fyre Wall is her first stakes winner and top earner. Hubbard also bred his second dam, 2008 Champion Broodmare My Dashing Lady, who is also the dam of Champions Brenda Beautiful and Noconi.
