by Michael Cusortelli
LDN Jessasaltydog scored his first stakes victory and outran his 14-1 odds to win the $40,000 Opelousas Stakes-RG2 for Louisiana-breds at
Evangeline Downs on Nov. 11.
LDN Jessasaltydog broke on top from the 4-gate
and led throughout, widening his advantage to cross the wire 3/4-length in front for a wire-to-wire victory.
Campaigned by Rene Amaro of Overton, Texas, and prepped by conditioner Carlos Saldivar, LDN Jessasaltydog went 400 yards in :19.759 while post- ing a 96 speed index.
LDN Jessasaltydog was bred by Lary D. Nixon of Longview, Texas. The gelding is one of three starters produced by lightly raced Jessa Blue Crystal.

A $5,000 claimer during the 2016 Delta Downs meet, LDN Jessasaltydog now has a race record
of 25-3(1)-3-5. The $24,000 winner’s share of the Opelousas Stakes purse from his first stakes victory pushed the gelding’s bankroll to $62,390, all of which has been pocketed in Louisiana, including a fifth-place finish in this year’s Mid-City Stakes-RG2.

LQHBA Million Invitational
HO LOTTA GAME
by John Moorehouse
Ho Lotta Game didn’t qualify for the Louisiana Million, but posting his first stakes victory proved to be quite the consolation prize. The rookie
gelding did just that, winning the $40,000 Louisiana Million Invitational at Evangeline Downs on Dec. 16.
A co-favorite at post time, Ho Lotta Game came flying from the gate and was handled well by rider Noe Castaneda. The gelding broke 3rd from the 8-post and led by a 1/2-length at the first call. The team maintained that separation going into the stretch and held off STA Rich Runaway to win by a head.
Ho Lotta Game finished the 400-yard event in :19.938, posting a 92 speed index and bringing in a $24,000 payday for owner Juan Portillo that more than doubled his cumulative earnings to a new total of $45,720.
Bruce Bell trains Ho Lotta Game, who logged his fourth win in seven career starts.
Robert Touchet and Darrel Williams home-bred Ho Lotta Game out of winner Ho Lotta Speed. She has produced 100% money earners from four starters. Ho Lotta Game is her first stakes winner and top earner.
STA Rich Runaway (Sir Runaway Dash-Toast To Hailey) finished a game second for STA Rich Racing, LLC. The Donald Rubin trainee had Antonio Alberto in the irons.
First Down Achilles (Corona Caliente-Shes A Super Girl) placed third for owners Pedro and Alberto Cruz. The gelding is trained by Saul Ramirez, Jr., who had Randy Edison aboard.
