LA MOS CORONA

La Mos Corona made a successful transition from the optional claiming ranks at the Fair Grounds to the ranks of stakes winners on Nov. 1 with a game
victory in the $30,000 Billy Montgomery Stakes at Evangeline Downs.
Contested over a sloppy (sealed) track, a field of 8 paraded postward in the 300-yard test. La Mos Corona, with Floriberto Maldonado aboard for trainer Orlando Orozco, dueled for the early lead with RCV Sheza Classydash and rider Santiago Mendez. The pairs battled all the way to the wire, with La Mos Corona gaining the upper hand in the late stages and dashing clear to a 3/4-length win in :16.589. The final time earned a speed index of 101.
In capturing the first stakes win of her career, 3-year-old La Mos Corona improved her record to 15-4(1)-5-1 and boosted her bankroll to $83,177 with addition of the $18,000 winner’s share for owner Manuel Alvarez.
Bred in Louisiana by Oscar Rohne, La Mos Corona is the top earner produced from the graded stakes winner La Mos Chingono, an earner of $355,360 herself. The 7-time stakes winner is the dam of 100% money earners from 5 starters, includ- ing additional stakes winner La Mos PYC, victorious in this year’s Gopher State Derby at Canterbury Park.

Mo Racing’s B And G Fast Dash justified his odds-on favoritism in the $30,000 Races And Aces Stakes at Evangeline Downs on Nov.
4, promptly winning the 870-yard marathon by a dominating 1 1/2-lengths.
With regular pilot Donald Watson in the irons, B And G Fast Dash broke last in the seven-horse field but was quickly hustled to the front and was on top at the first call. The 5-year-old bay gelding dueled with Seeyaontheotherside through the early stages, shrugged that one off in the stretch and then pulled away from Im Mighty Fast in deep stretch, scoring by 1 1/2-lengths.
B And G Fast Dash, who finished second in the Races And Aces Stakes in 2016, stopped the timer in :46.839 for trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr. It was the fifth stakes victory and third straight stakes win for B And G Fast Dash who improved his record
to 23-9(5)-2(1)-5(2) and increased his bankroll to $219,870 with the additon of the $18,000 winner’s share from this race.

IP 870 Stakes
JESSA LITTLE RUSTY

Jessa Little Rusty claimed his fourth stakes victory in the $21,300 IP 870 Stakes for 3 year olds and older at Evangeline Downs on Dec. 16.
The bay gelding broke fourth from the 4-post and, although not favored in the long distance
race, the gelding’s mid-field start was expected and reflected the odds.
Ridden by Gilbert Ortiz, Jessa Little Rusty faired well at first call, striding 2-lengths behind the leader, but crossed the stretch in third and closed on his rivals. The gelding galloped the 870-yard track in :46.158 and earned a 93 speed index.
Accustomed to receiving big money after running, Jessa Little Rusty deposited the $12,000 winner’s share of the purse for owner Louis Howard and trainer John Stinebaugh. His impressive lifetime earnings total $231,242 with the win.
Clyde Wilmott bred the gelding out of stakes winner Rustys Quickid. The gray mare has produced three stakes winners & five stakes placed runners. Jessa Little Rusty is the top earner of the brood
with additonal stakes wins in the AQHA Distance Challenge Championship-G1, Remington Distance Handicap-G2 and Benny Pennington Memorial.
Im Mighty Fast (Mighty Corona-Sheza Fast Doll) angled out and gained on the leaders under Randy Edison. The bay gelding placed for owner Triple C Racing Stables, LLC and trainer Jesus Garrido. Stolis Pro (Stoli-Veva Jean) held pace grudg- ingly under Francisco Calderon. The 6-year-old bay gelding finished in show for owner Jerry Windham and trainer Larry Kopycinski.
Struttinmyjewelsoff (Struttin To Beduino-Jewel Dont Back Down) finished fourth and was followed by Bet I Make U Famous (One Famous Eagle-Lone Bet), B And G Fast Dash (Heza Fast Dash-Rita Regent) and Passme Some Joy (Storm Passage TB-JT Joy Ride).
