A homebred for Rogelio Marquez trained by Jesus Marquez, One Sweet Sugar
is now a winner in four of six lifetime starts, and the $312,396 winner’s share of the lucrative purse increased her bankroll
to $514,788.
Winner of the Lassie
Futurity-RG2 in May, One Sweet Sugar was bred in Louisiana and is produced from the Heza Fast Dash mare Sugarshaker B. The sorrel filly is now perfect in all four outings at Delta Downs.
Runner-up Eyesa Freighttrain B (Freighttrain B-Eyejesslovelouisiana) just missed for owner Party Tyme Racing and trainer Jose Espinosa. Ridden by Everardo Rodriguez, the bay colt brushed after the start and drifted in but closed resolutely through the lane to finish a head behind the winner and a neck in front of San Lorenzo Blood in third. The bay colt, who captured the Laddie Futurity-RG2 in May, was undefeated heading into the Lee Berwick, was bred in Louisiana by Jumonville Farms/ Burnett Ranch.
Third-place finisher San Lorenzo Blood (Apollitical Blood-MS Valiant Perry) broke like a shot and immediately opened a length on the field under jockey David Alvarez in the early going and held third for the same connections as the winner. Victorious in the Mardi Gras Futurity-RG2 at Louisiana Downs in March, San Lorenzo Blood is a four- time winner in her career. She was bred in Louisiana by Slash Z Quarter Horses.
Rogue Fast Dash (Heza Fast Dash-Miss Jess Rogue), Wild Blue Debutant (Jess Louisiana Blue-Scooters Debutant), Hoztile Takeover (One Sweet Jess-MS Pilot Id), Eyesa Just Pretty (Carters Cartel-Eye Craft TB),
Jess Train B (Freighttrain B-Mamma Jamma Jamma), MP Adored (Mr Piloto-Adored Bigtime) and MP Jess Special (Mr Piloto-Jess A Special Star),completed the order of finish. MP Jess Special was disqualified from eighth and placed tenth for interference
in the race.
